Today, Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere; Collin County, Judge Keith Self; Divisional CFO, Financial Services, Capital One, Girish Bachani; Dr. John Joseph, founder and medical director of Primary Care Clinic of North Texas (PCCNT); Bill Smothermon, Lions Club District Governor and event attendees came together for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the clinic’s 100,000th patient visit, 13th anniversary and PCCNT’s move into a new, larger location in Plano.

"We are grateful to our sponsors and business partners that have enabled our clinic to expand to a new, larger location as we celebrate our 100,000th patient visit," said Dr. Joseph. "Our goal is to provide vital medical care to the uninsured, which often results in early diagnosis of an underlying disease. Generous donations and partnerships with companies like Capital One, give us the tools we need to treat those who are unable to afford healthcare elsewhere."

After the ribbon-cutting, attendees enjoyed refreshments and snacks, tours of the new facility and heard first-hand from patients of PCCNT about their experience and the importance of medical care for the uninsured. More than a quarter of working Texans are uninsured and the clinic provides a medical home and easy, accessible healthcare for thousands in the Metroplex.

"Through an approach called Investing for Good, Capital One Financial Services is committed to being a catalyst for the revitalization and growth of the communities it serves," said Capital One’s Bachani. "We are proud to partner with Primary Care Clinic to ensure more patients can receive quality healthcare."

Dr. Joseph sees a direct tie between issues of health and financial well-being, which is where Capital One’s efforts have made a huge impact. He added, “Primary Care Clinic and Capital One are both focused on improving the quality of life and enabling people to succeed through what we do. Everyone works so hard for so many.”

“This is a shining example that if we come together with a common cause, great things can happen,” said Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere. “The clinic is helping those that are most vulnerable, not only with the medical care they provide, but with the financial burden of medical care as well.”

PCCNT opened its doors in 2003 with a single clinic in Lewisville. As a result of corporate and community donors, PCCNT has grown from one clinic to three locations in Lewisville, Plano and Dallas and has provided care for more than 100,000 patient visits throughout the past 13 years.

“Me and my wife are so thankful for Primary Care Clinic,” said Wylie resident and PCCNT patient Benjamin Estrella. “About two years ago I came to the clinic and was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. I am so thankful that Dr. Solanki gave me the chance to get diagnosed and I would not be here today if it weren’t for this clinic.”

PCCNT seeks to be a solution by providing quality care and building connections with patients, expanding its service model to address the growing needs of the working poor and underinsured, for whom high deductibles and copayments present access barriers to basic healthcare.

About Primary Care Clinic of North Texas

Primary Care Clinic of North Texas (PCCNT) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit healthcare facility that provides medical care to uninsured adults up to the age of 65 and children above the age of 12 years in the Metroplex. Since its inception in 2003, PCCNT has provided care for more than 100,000 North Texans without health insurance. The clinic started with one location in Lewisville, Texas and has expanded to locations in Plano and Dallas. The goal of PCCNT is to enable the uninsured in Dallas, Denton and Collin counties easier access to medical care resulting in early diagnosis and therefore a better outcome. www.primarycareclinic.org

Through an approach called Investing for Good, Capital One Financial Services is committed to the local community and has recently focused its efforts on two different, deserving North Texas non-profits, Primary Care Clinic of North Texas and CHETNA. With locations in Dallas, Lewisville and Plano, Primary Care Clinic is a nonprofit healthcare facility that has been providing medical care to more than 90,000 uninsured and underinsured adults in the Metroplex since July 2003. CHETNA, which is Sanskrit for “awareness,” is a grassroots organization dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence in DFW’s South Asian community through emergency and transitional housing, education, transportation and financial assistance. Last year alone, CHETNA provided services to more than 150 victims escaping abusive relationships.

When Capital One learned of these two organizations, Sanjiv Yajnik, President of Capital One Financial Services, saw it as another opportunity for Capital One to be a catalyst for revitalizing communities Capital One serves in the Metroplex.

The Primary Care Clinic relies on funding from organizations and businesses like Capital One to provide services and medications at a subsidized cost to those in need. In Texas, one in five are without insurance. As a neighbor in the community, Capital One is partnering with the clinic to ensure more patients can receive care.

Most recently Capital One supported the Primary Care Clinic at its signature fundraising event, the 2016 Lone Star Cares Gala at the Hyatt Regency North Dallas. The annual Lone Star Cares Gala raises funds to hire physicians and medical staff and to educate people about the clinic and all that it offers. During the gala, the Primary Care Clinic presented its annual “Citizen of the Year” award to Yajnik.

In addition to its partnership with the Primary Care Clinic, Capital One is a strong advocate and community supporter of CHETNA. Through a recent grant, Capital One is helping expand CHETNA’s programs in three different areas: providing safe housing through CHETNA’s Flexible Transitional Housing Assistance program, promoting workforce development through workforce training and workshops, and increasing financial literacy through one-on-one workshops about budgeting, checking/savings accounts, how to build good credit and more.

Yajnik recently spoke at CHETNA’s annual gala, “Still I Rise,” at the Hotel Intercontinental in Addison, where Capital One returned as title sponsor.Through this sponsorship and recent Capital One grant, CHETNA will be able to further enhance services and resources provided to victims.

“The deeper you look into any community, the more you begin to see people as they truly are, the difficulties they’re going through – and you see opportunities to actively make the world better than you found it,” said Yajnik, who joined Capital One in 1998.

Throughout his career, Yajnik has stressed the importance of Capital One taking an active role in improving opportunities for local citizens, not in acting like a guest in the communities it serves or writing checks for nonprofits and then doing nothing else to help those organizations.

“There are good people in the community trying to do the right thing and create a good life for themselves and their loved ones, but sometimes they’re at the end of their rope and don’t know what to do,” said Yajnik. “Through partnerships with organizations like Primary Care and CHETNA, Capital One is able to reach into many different areas of need, play an active part and make a difference – one person at a time.”

DALLAS –April 4, 2016 – Approximately 300 associates of Capital One in Collin County volunteered roughly 1,800 hours to work with Habitat for Humanity of South Collin County (SCC) to help Shannan Williams, a single mother of two, fulfill a lifelong dream – owning a home.

Williams received the keys to her brand new home in a dedication and celebration that included house-warming gifts from the Capital One volunteers and associates.

Williams moved to Texas nine years ago for employment and has always dreamed of owning a home for her and her two teenagers, Willie and Kayla. For health reasons, she no longer had the ability to work full time. While working less gave Williams more time to volunteer with her church and community, she was not sure if her dream of owning a home would ever come true, but thanks to Habitat for Humanity and Capital One’s support, it has.

“Capital One has been a huge blessing in this process,” said Williams. “A different department came out every Wednesday, and we bonded like glue. We went from a slab, to a frame, boarding, siding, to painting, and now this perfect blessing is something that I hope to use to be a light to others.”

Williams and her family worked 400 volunteer hours, or “sweat equity,” in building the house alongside the Capital One volunteers. She is purchasing the home on a zero percent interest mortgage and is excited to move her family into a quality home where she can continue volunteering to follow her true passion of helping other single mothers.

“The dedication of our Capital One associates has been tremendous,” said Eric Schuppenhauer,  Senior Vice President, Head of Mortgage at Capital One. “They want to see the community thrive, and they want to be an integral part of its success year-round. That’s what Capital One’s East Plano Place-Based Initiative is all about – being a catalyst for the revitalization and growth of the communities we serve and call home.”

Through an approach called Investing for Good, Capital One coordinates business resources and a variety of community development and support for local programs and nonprofit organizations. In 2015 alone, Capital One associates in Collin County volunteered more than 27,000 hours in the community.

Capital One is committed to supporting organizations such as Habitat for Humanity that create a positive impact on local communities and the people and businesses in them. Through its “Home Loans Has Heart” program, launched in September 2013, Capital One made a $70,000 commitment to Habitat for Humanity-SCC. Along with the investment of the home build, Capital One has provided quarterly workshops on homebuyer literacy and various other financial literacy topics.

Recently, Capital One, in partnership with Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region (CISDR), concluded a nine-day math program involving 100 fifth-grade students from Dallas and Richardson Independent School District schools who came together to complete a fun, camp-like environment to learn math skills. The entertaining program, which is now in its fifth year, brings math to life for the students by providing the opportunity to participate in team-building activities, games and individual assessments designed to improve math skills.

Approximately 200 Capital One employees were involved in making the program a success and helping students prepare for the important grade-level standardized math tests they are required to take in school. By introducing students to a new environment and allowing them to interact with adults using the math skills they have learned and applying them to real work situations, CISDR students were able to gain a unique perspective not ordinarily provided by summer enrichment programs.

Capital One created the program as an opportunity to give back to the community and invest in Dallas students and their futures. The company worked with CISDR to make the program a reality and ensure that the camp’s curriculum aligned with the school’s standardized testing preparation and the academic needs of students.
