Recently, Capital One, in partnership with Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region (CISDR), concluded a nine-day math program involving 100 fifth-grade students from Dallas and Richardson Independent School District schools who came together to complete a fun, camp-like environment to learn math skills. The entertaining program, which is now in its fifth year, brings math to life for the students by providing the opportunity to participate in team-building activities, games and individual assessments designed to improve math skills.

Approximately 200 Capital One employees were involved in making the program a success and helping students prepare for the important grade-level standardized math tests they are required to take in school. By introducing students to a new environment and allowing them to interact with adults using the math skills they have learned and applying them to real work situations, CISDR students were able to gain a unique perspective not ordinarily provided by summer enrichment programs.

Capital One created the program as an opportunity to give back to the community and invest in Dallas students and their futures. The company worked with CISDR to make the program a reality and ensure that the camp’s curriculum aligned with the school’s standardized testing preparation and the academic needs of students.
