Heritage Farmstead Museum presents fourth annual FarmFest event

On Saturday, October 15, Heritage Farmstead Museum of Plano hosted its fourth annual FarmFest, a fall family event celebrating the area’s cultural heritage.

Almost 700 guests gathered for the FarmFest event, a birthday party celebration for Heritage Farmstead Museum’s 125th anniversary. The event featured activities including wagon rides, a Wylie Tractor Club exhibit, kiddie tractor pull, tours of the Farmstead’s Farrell-Wilson house, children’s crafts and chicken poop bingo.

“This was a big year for Heritage Farmstead Museum and for our FarmFest event,” said Heritage Farmstead  Museum  Executive Director M’Lou Hyttinen.  “We celebrated a huge milestone – 125 years! It was a wonderful day shared with members of our friendly community, our supportive local government, our generous sponsors and many friends of the farm!”

Queen of the Collin County Jr. Livestock Association Morgan Normand led the Pledge of Allegiance at the event, which also featured a proclamation by City of Plano and presentation of a City of Plano flag to fly at the museum by Mayor Pro Tem Lissa Smith. Following the pledge and the proclamation by the city, Plano West FFA served cake to guests from Carlos Bakery.

The FarmFest event also featured a pumpkin patch set up in the Farmstead’s beautiful, historic meadow.  The North 40 Storytellers Guild also presented “Folk Tales and Farm Tales” as part of the event.

“This event provided an opportunity to reflect on the Farmstead’s rich heritage, and to celebrate the future to come,” added Hyttinen. “
