Local ZTAs receive Nan Barkley Boettcher Award

Collin County Zeta Tau Alpha alumnae gathered recently for a “Sip and See” to celebrate receiving the Nan Barkley Boettcher Award at ZTA Convention 2018.  Named after a former ZTA National President and Vice President Alumnae, this is the highest award ZTA gives to an alumnae chapter with no local collegiate chapter in its area.  "The Nan Barkley Boettcher Award recognizes an alumnae chapter that excels in programming, philanthropy, service, membership growth and retention, charitable fundraising, and more,” said Stacy LaRue Gannon, ZTA District President XI-A.  “The Collin County Alumnae Chapter definitely excels at all of these. They do so much while having fun doing it, making it no surprise that they would be honored with one of Zeta Tau Alpha Fraternity’s highest awards!"

ZTA Convention is an event where alumnae and collegians come together each biennium to conduct Fraternity business and strengthen the bonds of sisterhood.  Close to 1,000 members attended this convention in Orlando, Florida.  "It was very humbling to receive this award for just doing the things that we love to do - serving our community, our local Panhellenic groups, and our own Zeta sisters,” said Diane Goebel, chapter president from 2015-2018.  This organization also received the Alumnae Crown Chapter Award for attaining the standard chapter excellence throughout the biennium.

The Collin County Alumnae Chapter works with collegiate chapters at several Texas universities, other ZTA alumnae chapters, and three area Panhellenic groups to support each other’s programming and philanthropy efforts.  Each year Collin County Zetas fund a ZTA Foundation undergraduate scholarship.  In addition to hosting engaging member social events, the chapter also promotes ZTA’s breast cancer awareness and education philanthropy by distributing Think Pink® ribbons at local high school football games and by volunteering at the American Cancer Society® Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.  This group also holds an annual bra drive benefitting Hope’s Door New Beginning Center.

“It was so rewarding to hear all of our chapter’s hard work get recognized with this amazing award!” said 2018-2019 chapter president, Linda Schoelkopf.  “We are looking forward to building on that success and engaging more great Zeta women in service, camaraderie, and giving back to our Fraternity.”

The Collin County Alumnae Chapter will hold its fall kickoff on September 5, at 6:00 p.m. at Napoli’s Italian Restaurant at 2865 McDermott, Plano, TX  75025.  The chapter invites all ZTA alumnae to attend.  To RSVP, send an email to CollinCountyZetas@gmail.com

Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity for women was founded in 1898, and has 257,000 members worldwide.  The Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation funds scholarships, educational and leadership development programming, and encourages everyone to Think Pink® with breast cancer education and awareness efforts, including partnerships with Bright Pink®, the NFL®, and the American Cancer Society®.  For more information, visit collincounty.zetataualpha.org and zetataualpha.org.

Collin County ZTA Alumnae Think Pink With Plano Sr High Planoettes

During the month of October, members of the Zeta Tau Alpha’s Collin County Alumnae Chapter were seen throughout the community promoting their national philanthropy, breast cancer education and awareness, and encouraging others to Think Pink®.

Teaming up with five local high schools, the ZTA Collin County Alumnae Chapter provided nearly ten thousand Think Pink® ribbons for their October Pink Out events.  ZTA members handed out ribbons at the Plano vs. McKinney football game on October 6, the Allen vs. Plano game on October 13, the Plano West vs. McKinney Boyd game on October 20, and the Lovejoy vs. North Forney game on October 27.  The chapter also provided Think Pink® ribbons for everyone attending Prosper High School’s annual Pink Out pep rally on October 27.

Prior to the Plano and Plano West games, ZTA alumnae members visited the Planoettes and Royales drill team rehearsals to thank the girls for their continued dedication to breast cancer awareness and for leading the Pink Out effort on their campuses.  Planoettes director, Meredith Walraven, and Royales assistant director, Kathy Conklin, both members of Zeta Tau Alpha, are committed to the fight for a cure and to seeing that the Pink Out tradition continues at these schools.

On the night of the Plano Wildcats game, Zeta Tau Alpha was recognized during a pre-game presentation by the Planoettes drill team for their ongoing Pink Out partnership.  This is the sixth year that Collin County ZTAs have teamed with the Planoettes to spread awareness.

During these games and pep rallies, it is incredible to look up into the stands to see so many fans wearing pink and showing their support to find a cure.  ZTA Think Pink® ribbons and pink accessories were also seen on drill team, band, cheer, and football team members, and to top it off, the team mascots wore giant ZTA Think Pink® ribbons during the games.

In addition to promoting awareness at sporting events, alumnae and collegiate ZTA members from throughout DFW staffed the survivor tent and other stations at the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) Walk that took place on the Ronald Kirk Bridge in downtown Dallas on October 28.  “It was truly inspiring to celebrate with so many breast cancer survivors, and I am proud to be a member of an organization that partners with the American Cancer Society,” stated Shelby Illingworth, VP Philanthropy for ZTA’s Collin County Alumnae Chapter.  Through Zeta Tau Alpha’s national partnership with the American Cancer Society, ZTA members provide volunteer support for MSABC Walks throughout the country.

Zeta Tau Alpha fraternity for women was founded in 1898, and has more than 252,000 members worldwide. Breast cancer education and awareness is ZTA's national philanthropy, and the organization partners with American Cancer Society, National Football League, and Bright Pink to promote awareness. Think Pink® is a registered trademark of Zeta Tau Alpha, and members have distributed more than 10 million pink ribbons since 1992.  For more information, visit collincounty.zetataualpha.org and zetataualpha.org.

Collin County Zeta alumnae gather in December to celebrate the holidays

Collin County Zeta Tau Alpha alumnae will gather on January 10, for their first event of 2017.  The chapter will hold its annual White Elephant Auction, where attendees bring wrapped white elephant gifts that will be sold during a live auction.  This lively auction is a favorite chapter event, and sometimes members use this as an opportunity to pass on that unwanted gift received for Christmas!  The auction benefits the chapter’s Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation scholarship that will be awarded to an active collegian member.

Zeta Tau Alpha was founded in 1898 at the State Female Normal School (now Longwood University) in Farmville, VA, and has more than 245,000 members worldwide. One of the nation’s largest women’s fraternal groups, ZTA develops members’ leadership, academic and service skills, and supports breast cancer education and awareness.

The Collin County Alumnae Chapter was formed in 2004, to serve ZTA members who live and work in and near Collin County.  This dynamic group enjoys a combination of social and service activities, and they are well known for teaming with local high schools to distribute Think Pink ribbons at football games during breast cancer awareness month. The Collin County Alumnae Chapter received the District President’s Award in 2016.  They were awarded Crown Chapter and were named the top alumnae chapter in the nation for Panhellenic involvement at 2016 Convention.

All alumnae members of ZTA are invited to attend.  For the meeting details and location, send an email to CollinCountyZetas@gmail.com.  For more information, visit CollinCountyZetaTauAlpha.org.
