A committee comprised of Park Place members selected Denton County Friends of The Family as one of 24 non-profits out of more than 350 applications received.

Christmas arrived early for 24 local non-profits that were awarded a total of $100,000 today from the SEASON OF GIVING campaign by Park Place Dealerships, which is celebrating its 35th year in North Texas. The luxury automobile group selected Denton County Friends of The Family and Journey To Dream Foundation from Denton among the organizations for its SEASON OF GIVING campaign because of their commitment to serving the Dallas/Fort Worth community.

A committee comprised of Park Place members from different dealerships across North Texas selected the non-profits out of more than 350 applications received. Under Park Place Cares, the company’s philanthropic arm, the company donated $100,000 to 24 charities that met the following criteria:

  • Serves at least one of the following counties: Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton, Ellis, Rockwall, Kaufman, Hunt or Johnson

Jack Yarbrough, chairman of the Fort Worth Firefighters Museum; Fort Worth Fire Dept. Captain Landon West; Royce Shields, vice chairman of the Fort Worth Firefighters Museum; former Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price; Johnny Campbell, President and CEO of City Center Management; Ed Hawthorne, president of the Texas Fire Museum.

City Center Management Company and former Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price thanked members of the Fort Worth Fire Department this week for their service at the historic Fort Worth Fire Station No. 1 in downtown Fort Worth. Built in 1907, Fire Station No. 1 has stood for 114 years, housing the original Fort Worth City Hall, with the mayor's office located on the second floor. The building, situated between the Wells Fargo Tower and Bank of America Tower, was in use until 1980 and was restored in 1982 for commercial use.

“We wanted to take the opportunity ahead of a busy holiday season and let our firefighters know how much we appreciate them,” said Johnny Campbell, President and CEO of City Center Management. “This was a special morning with the firefighters who were very appreciative of the community support.”

Located at 203 Commerce Street and E. 2nd Street in downtown Fort Worth, firefighters were treated to coffee from the new Starbucks Pickup located on the first floor of Fire Station No. 1 and breakfast tacos from 203 Café located on the second floor of the historic building.

Ed Hawthorne, president of the Texas Fire Museum, brought a rare, museum-quality, horse-drawn fire hose wagon to park in front of the old station for firefighters to see. Built in the early 1900s, the fire hose wagon originally served Ahmeek, Michigan, a small village located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The wagon was in disrepair when Hawthorne found it outside a store in Michigan. It recently underwent a complete restoration by the Weaver Wagon of Ohio and has a permanent home in Texas.

Jack Yarbrough, chairman of the Fort Worth Firefighters Museum, and Royce Shields, vice chair, brought a display of fire history memorabilia for the firefighters to see, including a plaque with an historical photo of Fire Station No. 1 with a horse-drawn steamer and a horse-drawn fire hose wagon along with a horseshoe and the history of Dewey, a fire horse who was said to be the fastest horse in the firehouse when the wagons were still pulled by horses.  The Fort Worth Firefighters Museum is currently set up in the Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex at 505 W. Felix Street at Hemphill in Fort Worth. It is free and open to the public. More information, including how to donate to a permanent home for the Fort Worth Fire Museum, can be found by searching “Panther Hose Company” on Facebook.

City Center is the premier business address with Class A office space in downtown Fort Worth. Comprised of the Bank of America Tower and the Wells Fargo Tower, the two iconic towers offer stunning views of Fort Worth, connected parking and an on-site private club with fitness center. More info at citycenterfw.com.

(L-to-R) GRACE Board Member Sean Shope; GRACE Christmas Cottage Chairperson Beth Chernik; GRACE Executive Director Shonda Schaefer; Southlake Realtor Randy White; Park Place Lexus Grapevine GM Robert Hinkle

Park Place Lexus Grapevine hosted the kickoff for the 2021 GRACE Christmas Cottage. Guests were encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to the event.  By the end of the evening a Lexus LC500 convertible and two Lexus SUVs were overflowing with toys and gifts for GRACE, an acronym for Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange.

“We’ve partnered with GRACE for more than a decade,” said Robert Hinkle, Park Place Lexus Grapevine general manager. “Now more than ever, many families in our community might not have Christmas without our help. We want to make sure every child in our community has a Christmas to remember. The GRACE Toy Drive makes it easy to give back.”

During the kickoff event, Christmas music serenaded guests as they enjoyed sweet and savory treats from Southlake Town Square’s restaurants including Brio Italian Grille’s sliced steak bruschetta, pasta and pumpkin bread; Del Frisco’s Grille’s deviled eggs, seared tuna crisp and lemon cake pops; and Mi Cocina’s beef, brisket and cheese quesadillas, mini chimichangas and bacon-wrapped shrimp brochettes with a poblano cream sauce. A selection of beer, wine and cocktails set the festive mood, including the special Mistletoe Martini, made with Tito’s Vodka, Elderflower Liqueur and cranberry juice.

Models displayed fashions from Southlake Town Square merchants, including Malouf’s, Market by Macy’s and White House Black Market.

The GRACE Christmas Cottage provides new, unwrapped gifts to families facing financial hardship due to limited incomes or recent emergencies. Each qualified family is given a voucher with a value based on the number of children in the family, allowing the parents to “purchase” donated toys, home goods and appliances in a private, store-like setting. This approach allows families to budget their resources to select unique presents while also preserving the family’s dignity.

The community is invited to drop off a new, unwrapped toy for the GRACE Christmas Cottage through Dec. 15 at the Lexus dealership at 901 Highway 114 East, or drop them off at GRACE Christmas Cottage at 1058 Texan Trail in Grapevine. To make a monetary donation to the GRACE Christmas Holiday Fund, go to gracegrapevine.org.

GRACE was organized in 1987 as a response to the growing need for emergency assistance services in far northeast Tarrant County.Today, GRACE continues to be a centralized, coordinated effort of churches, businesses and individuals donating food, clothing, monetary donations, and even professional services to Grapevine, Colleyville, and Southlake residents, as well as homeless and transient families in need. Programs have grown to include low-cost medical services, transitional housing, and general emergency assistance (food, clothes, furniture, financial assistance, information and referrals).
