A MAGICAL afternoon recently took place at St. Mark Catholic School in Plano thanks to some resourceful 7th and 8th grade students. For the second year in a row, they undertook the Herculean task of raising enough money to sponsor a child through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 

Through bake sales, babysitting and other fundraising efforts, they were able to sponsor Emma, a 5-year-old battling leukemia and held a special "send off" event for Emma and her family. Emma was given a special coach that took her through the school campus so she could meet princes and princesses and find invitations to a special party, which she presented to each character. The entire school turned out in Disney attire to cheer her on. It all culminated in a fabulous tea party with everyone in attendance, a bounce house, crafts, and photos with all of her favorite Disney characters. Then, the big event -- the presentation of a check for $12,500 to the Make A Wish Foundation that will enable Emma and her family to take her dream trip to Disney. See the entire story at CBS 11 DFW. 

In addition to this incredible undertaking, St. Mark Catholic School also just became the only school in North Texas to raise $20,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through their annual "Laps for Leukemia" fundraiser. The entire St. Mark community takes great pride in the fact that both of these efforts will help Emma and people like her.

U.S. Congressman Sam Johnson, Texas State Senator Van Taylor, and Texas State Representative Jeff Leach officially kicked-off St. Mark Catholic School - Plano, TX's 35th anniversary year on Friday, October 7. Flags were flown over the U.S. Capitol and Texas State Capitol buildings, and a State Proclamation was issued in the school's honor, which were presented to Principal, Patricia Opon. 

The esteemed guests spoke with St. Mark students about the upcoming election season, civic duty, the importance of service to community, and how they represent America's future leaders.

Father Clifford Smith, Pastor of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, gave a special 35th anniversary blessing, St. Mark Catholic Church - Plano, TX Boy Scout Troop 285 presented the colors, students presented the national anthem, patriotic and spiritual songs, and Student Council officers presented the dignitaries with plaques recognizing them as "Honorary Lions."
