Christmas Festival-a musical celebration Experience the St. Andrew Christmas Festival with two identical performances featuring orchestra, choirs, band, beloved carols, and Santa photo ops before and after each performance.

A Season of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love

This Advent season, St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano invites the community to experience the beauty and wonder of Christmas through a series of meaningful events designed to reflect the season’s themes of hope, peace, joy, and love. From moments of quiet reflection to joyful gatherings filled with light and music, Advent at St. Andrew offers something for everyone.

Beginning November 30 and continuing through December 31, Stations of the Nativity provides a meaningful outdoor experience available daily from dawn to dusk. Guests are invited to journey across the church’s scenic campus while listening to a 35-minute audio-guided message with music (accessed via a QR code) that brings the story of Christ’s birth to life in a powerful way—inviting reflection, renewal, and a heart prepared to celebrate the greatest promise ever made. There is no cost to participate in this inspiring reflection on the true meaning of the season.

On December 3, the church will host Advent Rhythms: Practicing Presence in the Season, led by Rev. Kim Meyers, from 6 to 7 p.m. in Piro Hall. This reflective gathering invites participants to pause amid the busyness of the holidays and rediscover the sacred rhythm of Advent through simple spiritual practices such as breath prayers, journaling, and the lighting of Advent candles.

The celebration continues on December 7 with the St. Andrew Advent Celebration, a beloved community tradition that fills the campus with joy and light. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., guests of all ages can enjoy a spaghetti supper (available for purchase), live music in Piro Hall and on the Piro Terrace, festive photo ops, s’mores, a cocoa truck, and the ever-popular ice slide. Families will also enjoy the meaningful Nativity Experience hosted by the Children’s Ministry by the pond. Before the celebration begins, families are invited to a Yancy Concert at 4:15 p.m. (tickets available). Register at https://standrewmethodist.org/events/event-details/?id=256497

Music takes center stage on December 14 with the St. Andrew Christmas Festival at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. (identical performances) in the Sanctuary. This year’s Christmas Festival features a full orchestra, the Chancel Choir, and the contemporary band, leading the congregation in joyful new arrangements of beloved carols. The morning culminates as the children’s choir leads the congregation in “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” Santa and his reindeer will also make special appearances, posing for photos before and after both performances.

On December 20, families are invited to gather for the Children’s Nativity Service from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary. One of the most cherished traditions at St. Andrew, this special service allows children to lead the entire worship experience, reenacting the story of Jesus’ birth in costume while the Children’s Choir performs and Rev. Arthur Jones shares a message of hope.

For those who may be experiencing loss, separation, or other hardships during the holidays, the Service of Comfort and Hope on December 21, from 2 - 3 p.m. in Hasley Chapel, offers a beautiful space for reflection, song, prayer, and remembrance—a reminder that no one walks alone in this season.

The celebration of Christ’s birth culminates with Christmas Candlelight Services on December 23 and 24, offering both traditional and contemporary worship experiences across multiple times and venues. Traditional services will be held on December 23 at 6 p.m. in the Sanctuary and on December 24 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Hasley Chapel and at 6, 8, and 11 p.m. in the Sanctuary, while contemporary services will be offered at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. in the Sanctuary, and 6 p.m. in Smith Worship Center. Childcare for ages 3 months through pre-K 5 is available at the 2, 4, and 6 p.m. services.

The season concludes on December 28 with Blessing of the Toys, from 10 - 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary—a joyful, pajama-friendly family service where children are invited to bring their favorite new toy for a special blessing. Hot cocoa and coffee will be served in the Narthex. On that day, there will only be one service.

“The Advent season is a time filled with anticipation as we await the fulfillment of a long-standing promise embodied in Jesus,” said Rev. Arthur Jones, senior pastor, St. Andrew. “Throughout the whole Bible, God is consistently making a relational promise: He will be with His people. Even when they are unfaithful, God’s faithfulness endures, so much so that He came to Earth Himself. In Jesus—who is both fully God and fully human—we meet the ultimate answer to this promise. This is the miraculous demonstration of unwavering love reflected in the Advent season.”

N.T. Wright N.T. Wright, former Bishop of Durham and professor at Oxford University, is one of today’s most influential Christian thinkers. He has written more than 85 books that engage deeply with Scripture and the hope of the Gospel. On November 12, he will focus on themes of resurrection and hope in new creation — a message that resonates across Christian traditions.

Presented by the Dr. Scott L. Engle Lecture Series

Join us for the inaugural event in this new lecture series featuring world-renowned theologian and author N.T. Wright

St. Andrew Methodist Church is proud to announce that world-renowned theologian and author N.T. Wright will be the inaugural speaker for the new Dr. Scott L. Engle Lecture Series on Wednesday, November 12, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the sanctuary at 5801 W. Plano Parkway in Plano, Texas. Wright will speak on themes of resurrection and hope in new creation, drawing from his decades of scholarship and ministry.

Professor Wright is a distinguished New Testament theologian, ordained Anglican Bishop, professor at the University of Oxford, and the author of more than 85 books. Known for his accessible and faithful explanations of the Christian message, Wright served as the Bishop of Durham from 2003 to 2010, one of the most senior positions in the Church of England. His unique combination of scholarly excellence, pastoral wisdom, and theological creativity has secured his legacy in 21st-century Christianity. Through his prolific writing and teaching, Wright invites believers into a renewed vision of the Kingdom of God – one that is ancient yet urgent, cosmic yet deeply personal.

The new lecture series honors Dr. Scott Engle, longtime teaching pastor at St. Andrew, who first encountered Wright’s work two decades ago through a cover story in Christianity Today.

“Reading about him led to my immediate curiosity in his writings,” said Dr. Engle. “He has been an integral part of my life and my teachings – and as an extension, part of St. Andrew’s life, our theology, and our approach to Scripture. He helps people see the larger story without getting lost in the trees. Wright is a gifted, prolific scholar who knows how to speak to regular people and help them embrace the truth of the Gospel.”

In addition to his academic work, Wright – also known as Tom Wright – is widely celebrated for his writing for general audiences. His books, which bridge the gap between academia and the church, have inspired countless readers to think deeply about the implications of Christian faith in everyday life.

“St. Andrew is thrilled to share this opportunity with the wider community,” said Rev. Arthur Jones, senior pastor of St. Andrew. “For years, our pastors have admired Wright’s brilliant teaching. His frameworks make sense in today’s world while holding firm to the eternal truths of God. This is a rare and powerful opportunity. Don’t miss it!”

Tickets are available for $45 at www.standrewmethodist.org/calendar

The Dr. Scott L. Engle Lecture Series, launched in 2024 at St. Andrew Methodist Church, was created in conjunction with an endowed directorship in Engle’s name at the Wesley House of Studies at Baylor University’s Truett Seminary. A beloved teaching pastor at St. Andrew for more than 20 years, Scott Engle has inspired thousands through his adult Bible studies, regular preaching, in-depth weekly study guides, and two popular Bible study podcasts that have reached nearly 100,000 downloads.  He recently launched his newest project: a weekly Bible video blog called “Below the Surface.” This partnership with Truett Seminary supports the development of future clergy and strengthens ties between the church and the seminary. The Engle Lecture Series, developed in coordination with Truett, will bring in leading scholars and teachers who bring their theological insight to the congregation for purposes of equipping, discipling, and growing Biblical literacy. It represents a unique and exciting addition to Christian education at St. Andrew.

Taylor Davis, St. Andrew Methodist Church Taylor Davis is no stranger to big ideas—he’s led ambitious musical programming at St. Andrew for years—but this piece is quite impactful: in June 2026, the Chancel Choir will perform The Poetry of Psalms at Carnegie Hall. This upcoming Plano performance is the community’s first—and possibly only—chance to hear the work live before it reaches a national stage.

Composed by Taylor Davis, the piece was commissioned by the Texas Master Chorale for their 40th anniversary and premiered in May, closing out their season

St. Andrew Methodist Church’s Chancel Choir along with a professional orchestra will present The Poetry of Psalms, an original 40-minute work by composer Taylor Davis that weaves together Biblical psalms and secular poetry in a powerful musical conversation. The free concert will take place on Sunday, Oct. 19, 3-4 p.m., in the sanctuary of St. Andrew, at 5801 W. Plano, Parkway.

Commissioned by the Texas Master Chorale (TMC) to celebrate their 40th anniversary, the piece received its world premiere in May with TMC and now comes to St. Andrew with Davis conducting and a professional orchestra drawn from across the DFW metroplex.

“When TMC asked me to commission this work, I came up with this idea because I find many of the psalms quite poetic, and I thought pairing a few of them with some of my favorite poems would be unique,” said Taylor Davis, creative director of traditional worship and music at St. Andrew. “The psalms are poetic at heart, but I did not want to just present 45 minutes of sacred text. I wanted to bring in a modern voice – something secular but still spiritual, something that might enhance the psalms.”

The 40-minute piece consists of a series of musical pairings – each one matching a psalm with a poem.

“Almost in a call and response way, the texts volley back and forth,” said Davis. “For example, the Scottish poem As the Rain Hides the Stars paints a picture of trusting what we cannot see, and it’s complemented by Psalm 8, describing creation with the sun, moon, and stars of night. This is perhaps one of my favorite pairings: the poem sounds like you’re watching fireflies after a summer storm, and the psalm about creation is like a confetti cannon!”

“In another pairing example, Emily Dickinson’s Will There Really Be a Morning? is answered when Psalm 113 declares from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same, the Lord’s name is to be praised,” he continued. “Each pairing lasts about four minutes with ten total movements inviting the listener on a journey through doubt, wonder, praise, and gratitude.”

“The psalms can feel sepia-toned—beautiful, but distant,” said Davis. “I wanted to add a little technicolor, and these poems do that. They help us see that sacredness isn’t locked away in old texts. It’s all around us—in everyday language, in the natural world, and in the questions we all carry.”

This concert is part of a broader effort by St. Andrew to offer meaningful, artistically excellent programming for the wider community. From classical music lovers to curious first-time concertgoers, The Poetry of Psalms aims to be both accessible and profound.

“At St. Andrew, we’re committed to creating one-of-a-kind opportunities for people to experience beauty and transcendence through music,” said Davis. “Concerts like this offer exceptional music people can't find outside the Dallas Arts District.”

More than just a concert, The Poetry of Psalms is the centerpiece of St. Andrew’s fall music programming – designed to connect with younger audiences, particularly high school and college music students in the DFW area. It also sets the stage for the Chancel Choir to take the concert to Carnegie Hall for an appearance in June 2026.

“St. Andrew’s Music Ministry offerings go beyond performance – they invite listeners into spiritual depth, communal reflection, and musical experiences that are transforming,” added Davis. “Through creative programming and outreach, we aim to connect people of all ages with the church through art. Join us on Sept. 28 for a transcendent musical experience – where sacred meets secular and tradition meets innovation.”

St. Andrew Prom Closet Now accepting donations of dresses, jewelry, shoes, handbags, and wraps!

MAKING PROM DREAMS COME TRUE:

16th Annual St. Andrew Prom Closet: Feb. 18 – March 1, 2025

Now collecting donations of dresses, jewelry, shoes, handbags, and wraps

The fairy godmothers of The St. Andrew Prom Closet announce that the 16th Annual Prom Closet is scheduled for Feb. 18-20 and 22 and Feb. 24 – March 1, 2025, at St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano. Girls from ANYWHERE in need of a prom dress are invited to come select a dress and accessories - all at no cost. Donations of dresses (sizes 0-30), jewelry, shoes, handbags, and wraps are needed.

“This month we begin asking for the community’s help in providing donations of dresses and accessories,” said Devra Helffrich, a founder of the St. Andrew Prom Closet, which was created to provide a unique shopping experience for young ladies who because of finances would be unable to attend prom. “Start the New Year with a clean closet and bring us your gently used dresses as well as shoes, jewelry, and handbags! We also have an option to purchase items for the girls through our Amazon shopping link, which will be on the Prom Closet website. Each year, we depend on donations from individuals, local groups and businesses to provide the many items needed to complete each girl’s prom ensemble.”

For shoppers, appointments are required to improve the overall experience and minimize wait times. Online registration for shoppers as well as volunteers begins Jan. 23. Visit standrewmethodist.org/prom closet. Each shopper must be present to select her own dress and accessories and may have one guest, age 16 or older. A volunteer will assist each girl throughout the process, and there will be 40 shopping spots per each 90-minute time slot.

Prom Closet, a service of the St. Andrew Methodist Women, provides prom attire to approximately 1,000 high school girls each year. While the need is great, the impact the dress makes on the girl and her family is immeasurable. When Prom Closet first began in 2009, 35 girls from local high schools received dresses and accessories. In 2024, 1,073 girls from 213 schools and 103 school districts received dresses and accessories. Over the years, Prom Closet has welcomed girls from across Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma as well as exchange students from Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and Thailand. A total of 941 volunteers came together last year to help make prom dreams come true.

“For the St. Andrew Methodist Women, Prom Closet is a year-round labor of love,” said Rev. Arthur Jones, senior pastor, St. Andrew. “This dedicated group of women, combined with the many volunteers who make it happen each year, know its value. Each volunteer strives to provide an uplifting experience by letting the young ladies know they are loved, and they are beautiful. The Prom Closet has grown into such an incredible outreach program in North Texas and beyond because of the love and hard work of our volunteers. Words are not enough to thank them for going above and beyond each year to make prom dreams come true.”

All donations may be dropped off at St. Andrew, 1401 Mira Vista Blvd., just inside the church’s north entry doors on a designated dress rack. Look for the covered walkway leading to the entrance and see the website for specific drop-off hours. To sign up to volunteer, shop or find out more information, visit standrewmethodist.org/promcloset. For any questions, call the Prom Closet informational hotline at 469-385-1810, or email standrewpromcloset@gmail.com.

St. Andrew Christmas Festival - Dec. 8 A musical celebration of the season with fun surprises!

St. Andrew Methodist Church invites the community to share in the joy of the season while exploring ways to be “a gift” to others. From concerts and fun children’s events to Stations of the Nativity, an advent Bible study and worship, as well as the second year of a new Giving Tree tradition, there are many ways to come together for celebration, reflection, and service to others.

“Throughout the four weeks of Advent, St. Andrew will focus on each of these essential themes—Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love—inviting our congregation and the broader community to engage in meaningful reflection and action,” said Rev. Arthur Jones, senior pastor of St. Andrew. “Each week will serve as a reminder of the gifts we can bring to the world, encouraging us all to not only seek these virtues but to actively be the change we wish to see.”

The annual Christmas Festival will kick off holiday events at St. Andrew on Sunday, Dec. 8 in the sanctuary with two identical performances at 9:30 and 11 a.m. The Christmas Festival features a full professional orchestra, brilliant arrangements of favorite carols, and new music by Taylor Scott Davis, St. Andrew’s creative director of traditional worship and music. Before and after the performances, Santa and his reindeer will be outside for a photo opportunity in his sleigh – complete with falling snow! There is no cost.

That evening, bring the family back to St. Andrew for the annual Advent Celebration from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The popular and fun event features a Christmas train ride, an exhilarating 8-foot snow tube, musical performances, and a trip back in time to “A Night in Bethlehem,” an interactive family experience for children to explore what life was like in Bethlehem. The event is free, and dinner is available for purchase.

On Sunday, Dec. 15, at 6 p.m., St. Andrew presents a new musical event, “A Baroque Christmas,” in the sanctuary.  Led by Gary Levinson, the senior principal associate concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, this event will feature musicians and St. Andrew vocalists performing Christmas music that is nearly 400 years old. The concert will conclude with Antonio Vivaldi’s classic “Gloria.” In lieu of tickets, a donation of $20 is suggested.

St. Andrew’s Children’s Nativity Service, beloved by all ages, will take place on Saturday, Dec. 21, 5:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. Children, from pre-K to Grade 5, lead a worship service. From leading the opening prayer and reading the Nativity story to acting out the story in costume, there is something for each age group at this heartwarming event, which also includes singing from the children’s choir and a message from Rev. Arthur Jones.

For those wanting to take a deeper dive into the season of Advent, visit the outdoor Stations of the Nativity, Dec. 1 – 31, from dawn to dusk, through a podcast available with a QR code. Beginning near the Hasley Chapel, experience the story of Jesus’ birth via audio-guided message as you journey to stations around the scenic creek and pond. With music and spiritual meditations, this inspirational experience allows participants to experience the story alongside the original witnesses of Jesus’ birth. For additional reflection, an Advent Bible Study, led by Rev. Kim Meyers, will be held on Wednesdays at noon, Dec. 4, 11, and 18 in Piro Hall. Bring your lunch and a Bible and attend as you are able. Each week explores a different focus.

Back by popular demand, the “Behold the Lamb of God” Tour will return to St. Andrew in the sanctuary on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. Presented by Nashville singer-songwriter and author Andrew Peterson, the tour, now in its 25th year, tells the “true tall tale” of the coming of Christ in a live concert event, featuring guest artists Jess Ray, The Arcadian Wild, Andy Gullahorn, Jill Phillips, Andrew Osenga, and Skye Peterson along with an all-star cast of Nashville songwriters and musicians. The concert brings the singing and playing of Peterson's original folk-roots infused rendition of the Christmas story as it is foreshadowed in the Old Testament and brought to bear in the New Testament. Exclusive ticket prices for St. Andrew: $45 for floor seating and $30 for balcony seating. Purchase online at standrewmethodist.org/calendar.

The 26th annual St. Andrew Heart of Christmas Silent Auction and Lunch, hosted by Methodist Women, will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m., in Smith Worship Center, benefiting 2025 missions, including the St. Andrew Prom Closet. The cost is $25 per ticket or a reserved table of eight for $200. View auction items beginning Nov. 25.

St. Andrew’s Giving Tree, available Dec. 1 – 31, gives participants a way to give back to mission partners including The Storehouse Community Center, Beacon of Light mental health ministry, and 4 Corners. Special trees throughout the campus provide a selection of items to choose from, ranging from $10 to $100.

Each year, St. Andrew’s Service of Comfort and Hope, Sunday, Dec. 22, 2 p.m., in the Hasley Chapel, presents a worship experience for those who seek the solace of a quiet Christmas season – one of remembering and preparation. For anyone dealing with death, separation, health concerns and any number of situations, the holidays can be a time of mixed emotions.  Through song and reflection, this service provides the comfort, hope, and knowledge that we are never alone.

The beautiful Christmas Candlelight Services of St. Andrew will begin on Monday, Dec. 23 with 6 p.m. services in both the sanctuary (traditional) and Smith Worship Center (contemporary). On Dec. 24, there will be six times for Christmas Eve services, including both traditional and contemporary options from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Visit standrewmethodist.org for times and details.

“With the hustle and bustle that comes with the holidays, we hope you will take time to celebrate with us and reflect on the true meaning of the season,” added Rev. Jones. “Come and make new Christmas memories with your family and discover new ways you can be a “gift” to others this holiday season and as we begin a new year.”

St. Andrew Cars for Community Car Show

Annual fundraiser supports The Storehouse’s mission to feed, clothe, and care as neighbors in one community

The 8th Annual St. Andrew Cars for Community Car Show, hosted by the St. Andrew Methodist Men, is scheduled for Saturday, October 19, at St. Andrew Methodist Church, 5801 W. Plano Parkway, from 11 – 3 p.m. (Awards presented at 2 p.m.) Open to the public with no admission fee, the event invites car and motorcycle enthusiasts to show off their vehicles while benefiting The Storehouse Community Center, a nonprofit which provides short-term assistance and long-term transformation to residents of Collin, Dallas, and Denton counties in need.

“The car show is not only great fun, but it supports The Storehouse, which is doing incredible work helping so many in need in our community,” said Ron Weaver, organizer.  “All proceeds go toward supporting its mission to feed, clothe, and care as neighbors in one community. Last year we were delighted to present The Storehouse with a check for more than $5,000 to help provide nutritious meals, essential clothing items, life-changing resources, and educational opportunities.”

The event features raffle prizes and food vendors as well as goody bags for the first 100 entrants.

Over 20 classes will be judged including “Best of Show,” and “Best Paint and Interior.” Onsite registration on the day of the event takes place from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. and is $25. Online pre-registration is $20. Go to https://give.thestorehousecc.org/CAR24.

“We are so grateful to the men of St. Andrew for organizing this annual fundraiser benefiting our neighbors at The Storehouse,” said Candace Winslow, CEO, The Storehouse Community Center. “Each donation we receive enables us to serve our neighbors holistically, meeting their needs of food and clothing as well as providing resource referrals and educational opportunities, including job, language, and life skills training. This pathway culminates in a job partnership program connecting neighbors with stable, high-quality employment opportunities – a pivotal step on their journeys to transformation.  Last year, The Storehouse served 182,000 unduplicated neighbors – something we could not do without the generosity of our community.”
