on “How to Interview Like a Rock Star,” Providing Helpful Tips and Strategies to Job Seekers

EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Plano, Texas –May 8, 2014 – St. Andrew United Methodist Church’s CareerCare group welcomes back Career Guru Abby Kohut to speak on the interviewing process and reveal the two winners of her North Texas Total Career Makeover Contest on Wednesday, May 21, 10 a.m., at Festival Hall, 5801 W. Plano Parkway, Plano, TX 75093.  The event is open to the public.

Kohut will not only share her tips on interviewing and dressing for success, but she will also conduct an interactive mock interview with the audience.  As attendees arrive they will be asked to submit  questions that might be used in the presentation.

“This activity has proven to be a fun and engaging way to help people craft great answers to some commonly asked interview questions,” said Kohut.  “Additionally, it is a helpful process for interviewees to learn some strong questions they might ask.”

Kohut is widely known for her website AbsolutelyAbby.com, which was selected as one of Forbes.com’s “Top 100 Websites for Your Career” in 2013. Over the past two decades, she has recruited over 10,000 people for a variety of companies.  She is also the president and recruiting consultant for Staffing Symphony, LLC, and was selected as one of Fast Company Magazine’s Top 100 Influential People Online.  Additionally, Kohut was named one of "15 Career Experts Not to Miss on Twitter" by The Daily Muse; one of the "Top Twitter Accounts Job Seekers Must Follow" by Youtern.com; and one of "101 career-experts-job-hunters should-follow" by Careercopilot.com.

“In 2012 my husband and business partner Ken and I left our home in New Jersey in an RV to embark on an 8,000 mile journey to reach and teach 1,000,000 job seekers how to stand out in a crowd of more than 14,000,000 unemployed.  This is a labor of love for us.  We do not earn an income from speaking and do not have a sponsor for the tour.  We are selling our home and possessions to pay for this effort.   It is truly a labor of love!”

Since then she has educated more than 200,000 job seekers in libraries, schools, YMCAs, military bases, and houses of worship in 27 states how to stand out in a crowd.  Kohut launched her national Total Career Makeover contest in 2011, with the first one in New Jersey and the second one this past March in San Diego.  Kohut plans to do them in each city she travels to with Chicago being the next.    The winners receive a new look including a physical makeover, individual consulting sessions with Kohut and copies of Kohut’s books and teleseminars.

“We are delighted to welcome back Abby Kohut as she has wonderful advice for anyone seeking new employment,” added Bill Brewer, Ministry Director, CareerCare, St. Andrew UMC.  “It’s great to be a part of her North Texas Career Makeover contest as well.  We sincerely hope the community will take advantage of her being in town and join us for this helpful program.”

Kohut was rated by Fast Company magazine as one of the Top 100 Influential People Online and was one of the “Monster 11” according to Monster.com in 2011.  She has been highlighted as a job search expert on Fox 5, NBC, CBS, ABC, LinkedIn, Monster, Real Simple, The Ladders, Bloomberg Radio, and now Forbes. She is also the author of “Absolutely Abby’s 101 Job Search Secrets.”

Event is free and no reservations are required.  Entrance will be on east side of the church directly off of Mira Vista.  Park in the north parking lot and enter the double doors facing the north lot.  For more information, visit the CareerCare Website at http://www.standrewumc.org/connect/ministries/learning/career-care/ or call the church office at 214-291-8082.
