The stars at night will be big and bright deep in the heart of Collin College on Sat., Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. as patrons saddle up for the “Stetson & Stiletto Standoff” inside the college’s new library at Spring Creek Campus in Plano.

With the backdrop of the library’s magnificent Jeffersonian architecture, this Lone-Star-State-themed battle of the wits will raise scholarships for students at Collin College. Patrons in cowboy-chic attire will square off in teams of eight with trivia questions highlighting the well-known, and sometimes obscure, facts and historical points from the great state of Texas and Collin County.

The teams will compete for the distinguished title of “Stetson and Stiletto Champions” with prizes for first, second and third place teams. To improve the odds of winning, patrons can bid for help from Collin College professors lending their expertise through a one-of-a-kind lifeline auction.

Fun and games aside, supporters will have the opportunity to make an investment that truly provides a meaningful return to the community through scholarships.

“Unfortunately, financial challenges often beset Collin College’s best and brightest as the percentage of students requesting financial assistance continues to rise,” said Cary Israel, Collin College district president. “Locally, 26,000 students at Collin College applied for financial aid and scholarships last year alone, so these students desperately need scholarships.”

Scholarships created by this event will be awarded in sponsors’ names at the annual Collin College scholarship banquet in August.

Sponsorship levels include the $25,000 Lone Star Partner, $15,000 Alamo Partner, $10,000 Rio Grande Partner, $5,000 Yellow Rose Partner and $2,500 Silver Spur Partner. Individual tickets are $125.
