Over 450 parents, school leaders and Windsong residents celebrated the Ribbon Cutting of Windsong Ranch Elementary School, Prosper ISD's sixth elementary school, on Sunday August 14, 2016. The school, located at 800 Copper Canyon Drive, is in the Cadence neighborhood of Windsong Ranch and is the first within the development.
"We are thrilled to welcome Windsong Ranch Elementary to the neighborhood just in time for back-to-school,” said Craig Martin, Founding Partner of Terra Verde Group, the developer of Windsong Ranch. “I’m so excited for the first day of school when our students can walk and bike safely to school for the first time. This building is beautiful and we are equally excited about building a long-term partnership with Prosper ISD as we work together to provide a first-class educational environment,” said Martin.
This is the first elementary school to be built on the west side of the Tollway in Prosper to serve the burgeoning student population and will house 700-750 students. It is also the first elementary in Prosper to house K-5th grade in one building. Terra Verde Group donated the land and $4 million for the construction of the school. The community is slated to have another elementary school and a middle school within Prosper ISD, which is one of the highest ranked school districts in the state of Texas.
"We are very excited about the opening of Windsong Ranch Elementary School,” said Drew Wilkins, Superintendent of Prosper ISD. “This project would not have been possible without the amazing partnership between the developers and the ISD. This marks the first of several schools in the Windsong development and we look forward to this continued partnership moving forward."
During the ceremony, Prosper ISD School Board President Daniel Jones said, "Without (Terra Verde's) contribution to the school I can honestly say we would not be standing here today."
The school was designed by Huckabee Architects and Pogue Construction is the General Contractor.
Immediately following the ceremony, Windsong Ranch hosted a Back-to-School BBQ for teachers, students, parents and faculty at the Windsong Ranch Commons featuring swimming, music and food trucks.
Windsong Ranch, a 2,030-acre development by Terra Verde Group, was named the 2016 People’s Choice Community of the Year.
