On Thursday, September 19, Heritage Farmstead Museum of Plano is offering a free yoga class and a variety of family-friendly activities from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. as part of the group’s participation in North Texas Giving Day, a one-day, online giving event that benefits thousands of North Texas area non-profits.

“We’d like the community to know that good neighbors embrace and encourage the art of giving to those in need. It’s a long standing tradition as the good people of Plano always pulled together to help fellow farmers in good times and in bad,” said Kathy Wilson, Development Director for Heritage Farmstead Museum. “And then there’s always the importance of getting our bodies moving and stretching our limits!”

Toni Farris, owner of Yoga Tree Studio in Plano, will offer a yoga lesson in the meadow at the Farmstead from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Guests are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats.

“We hope this event will elevate awareness of North Texas Giving Day across Collin County,” added Wilson. “As part of this event, Heritage Farmstead Museum will host a North Texas Giving Day Donation Station featuring information booths from a variety of area non-profits. Booths will be located across our 4 acre historic site.”

In addition to a yoga class, vendors and North Texas Giving Day donation station opportunities, guests will enjoy music and have the opportunity to take photos with the Farmstead’s chickens, sheep, donkey and pigs. A variety of food will also be available for purchase.

Some of the participating non-profits include: Agape Resource & Assistance Center, Prelude Clubhouse, Faith Lutheran School, Becky’s Hope Horse Rescue, Plano Community Homes, Habitat for Humanity of Collin County, Veterans Center of North Texas, Altruistic, Canine Companions, Abby Road Rescue, Daughters of the American Revolution, National Autism Association of North Texas, Fair Oaks of Denton, Paw Support, Developing Working Hands and the Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation.

Last year, North Texas Giving Day brought together more than 2,700 organizations and raised $48 million to area non-profits. This year, North Texas Giving Day aims to raise the giving day bar once again to benefit even more North Texas nonprofits.

Faith Lutheran Church of Plano today announced the church's Holy Week and Easter schedule of special services. For more info please visit www.faithplano.org

Faith Lutheran Church of Plano today announced the church's Holy Week and Easter schedule of special services.

“Temptations and trials are a reality in our lives.  During Lent, we repent of our sins, and we also live in God’s forgiveness brought about by the blood of our Savior.  Lent prepares us not only for Good Friday, but also for Easter,” said Faith Lutheran Church of Plano senior pastor Rev. James Woelmer of Lucas.  “Join us during our Lenten journey as we are directed to the holy sufferings and death of our Lord Jesus Christ so that we may come to Easter with glad hearts keeping the feast with sincerity and truth.”

Faith Lutheran Church is located at 1701 E. Park Blvd. in Plano, Texas.

Palm Sunday worship, Sunday, April 14, 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Maundy Thursday Service, Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m.

Good Friday, April 19, 2:00 p.m. service and 7 p.m. Tenebrae service

Tenebrae (Latin for "shadows" or "darkness") is a Christian religious service celebrated on the evening before or early morning of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday, which are the last three days of Holy Week. The distinctive ceremony of Tenebrae is the gradual extinguishing of candles while a series of readings and psalms is chanted or recited.

Easter Vigil Service - Saturday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m.

Easter Vigil is the first celebration of the resurrection of Christ from the dead (much like Christmas Eve is the first celebration of Christmas). The Easter Vigil marks the final day of the sacred Triduum (Holy/Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and the Vigil of Easter). Historically, the Easter Vigil began around the middle of the second century. The people of God would hold vigil, which means “keep watch,” through the night in expectation of Christ’s return.

The Easter Vigil service is comprised of six parts: Light, Readings, Holy Baptism, Prayer, the Word and the Sacrament. The paschal candle is lit and it leads the procession into church. The historic Exsultet or Easter proclamation is sung and the Easter acclamation: “Alleluia! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia!” is first spoken. The service begins in darkness and it ends in light.

Easter Sunrise Worship Service, Sunday, April 21 at 6:00 a.m.

Easter Sunday Divine Worship Service with Holy Communion, Sunday, April 21 at 8:00 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Faith Lutheran Church will host the 2019 North Texas Free Conference on Saturday, January 26 at the church's Plano, Texas campus. The conference - themed “Creation”- will feature guest speaker Dr. Joel Heck from Concordia University in Austin, Texas.

Faith Lutheran Church will host the 2019 North Texas Free Conference on Saturday, January 26 at the church's Plano, Texas campus. The conference - themed “Creation”- will feature guest speaker Dr. Joel Heck from Concordia University in Austin, Texas.

“In the beginning, God created - out of nothing - everything that exists in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible. Nothing exists apart from God’s creation. Every person and all living creatures receive their life from God and depend on His care. God created by His Word. He spoke creation into existence, forming and filling it in six days," said Faith Lutheran Church senior pastor Rev. James Woelmer. "There are  a lot of competing accounts of how the world came into existence, such as, pantheism, atheistic evolution and theistic evolution. But all of these theories lead to unbiblical conclusions and they deny the truth in Scripture."

Dr. Joel Heck serves Concordia University Texas, Austin, Texas, as Professor of Theology after nine years at Concordia as Vice President of Academic Services. Previously he served as pastor of Zion Lutheran Church, Valley Park, Missouri and Professor of Religion at Concordia University Wisconsin. He holds the Th.D. in  Exegetical Theology from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, and he teaches various religion courses at Concordia University Texas, including Old Testament, New Testament, Reformation and C. S. Lewis, including a course entitled “Narnia meets Middle Earth.” He is the author or editor of fourteen books, most recently "From Atheism to Christianity: The Story of C. S. Lewis."

The conference begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 26 and will conclude following a mid-day meal. Faith Lutheran Church is located at 1701 E. Park Blvd. in Plano, Texas

The conference is free, but free will offerings will be accepted to offset conference expenses.  Registration is encouraged. For complete conference schedule, additional information or to register, call 972.423.7447 or visit www.faithplano.org
