Excellence in Service Awards Program – February 26, 2015

Volunteerism is at the heart of the Junior League of Collin County’s mission.   Comprised of nearly 1,000 women dedicated to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers, the Junior League of Collin County strives to inspire others to embrace and celebrate volunteerism.   The Excellence in Service Awards is an opportunity to celebrate and honor those who are making an important contribution in the Collin County community.   To submit a nomination, please visit: www.jlcollincounty.org/esa-application.  Deadline is January 09, 2015.

“The Junior League of Collin County is a leader in developing volunteers and community leaders, and we are honored to celebrate inspiring volunteers who have committed themselves to give back to our community,” said Angie Adams Sifferman, President 2014-2015 of the Junior League of Collin County.

The award winners will be determined by the Junior League of Collin County’s Community Advisory Board comprised of community leaders:  Shannon Chen, Mary Alice Garza, Pam Little, Mayor Brian Loughmiller, Mayor Maher Maso, Dr. Mary McRae, Allison Miller, Jim Rose, Jan Rugg, Carol Schauer and Joe Turano.  The awards will be announced at the Excellence in Service Awards Dinner on February 26, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at the Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco, Texas.  Tickets for the Excellence in Service Awards are available online at http://www.jlcollincounty.org/excellence-in-service-awards for $30/per person.

The dinner will include a keynote address from Ann Pomykal, Director of Education for Texas Instruments Foundation.  A lifelong leader in social responsibility and corporate citizenship, Ann brings a unique perspective to the importance of volunteerism.  Her words are sure to validate the nominees’ deep commitment to the Collin County community. 

Nominations are accepted in the following award categories for the 2014 Excellence in Service Awards:

• Middle School (Grades 6-8) – Volunteer of the Year

About the Junior League of Collin County

The Junior League of Collin County is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League of Collin County began in May 1976, as the Plano Service League, and was admitted to the Association of Junior Leagues International in February of 1984, becoming the 255th League to join. Today, membership includes nearly 1,000 women from cities in Collin County, including Plano, Allen, Frisco and McKinney who value Service, Respect, and Leadership. Speaker Bio – Ann Pomykal, Texas Instruments:

Ms. Ann Pomykal has been with Texas Instruments and/or Texas Instruments Foundation for 27 years and serves at this time as Director, Major Education Grants for TI Foundation.  Her entire career has been focused on corporate citizenship with special emphasis on education and the development of grants that impact the educational outcomes, especially in urban school districts.   Ann’s leadership role includes serving as Executive Director for many years of the TI Foundation.  Her focus, especially in education, has allowed her to collaborate with key stakeholders to invest in teachers to improve science, technology, engineering and math education in North Texas. Early in her career, Ann became passionate about social responsibility and corporate citizenship. Through The Center for Corporate Citizenship at Boston College, in partnership with the Carroll School of Management, Ann became a leading force in the development of this field and taught benchmarking and process management to more than 125 corporations.  Ann has also been a driving force for internal branding and employee retention programs tied to social responsibility.  Ann’s past civic activities include five terms in public office, including Mayor for the City of Lewisville and City Council.  Over the years she has served on many boards and has had leadership roles in United Way, the arts, as well as many health and human services organizations.
