KIDS IN THE KITCHEN “HEALTHY LIVING KIDS FEST” PRESENTED BY JUNIOR LEAGUE OF COLLIN COUNTY

Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Children’s Health Plano

Kids in the Kitchen is a national initiative of the Association of Junior Leagues International.  Developed in 2006 to address the growing issue of childhood obesity and poor nutrition, Kids in the Kitchen is designed to educate and connect youth and their families with tools to improve fitness, nutrition, family lifestyle choices and prevent child obesity.  More than nine million children between the ages of six and nine are overweight, a number which has tripled over the last 20 years.  The statistics are alarming, but true.  Through Kids in the Kitchen, the Junior League of Collin County provides fun, family-oriented solutions to healthy living, where kids and youth are encouraged to be active participants in their own health and well-being. Junior League of Collin County volunteers coordinate and host the event.

In Collin County, Kids in the Kitchen is co-sponsored by Children’s Health Plano.  The event is open to the public and takes place on Saturday, March 19, 2016 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Children’s Health Plano campus at 7601 Preston Road.

Is there a chef in the making in your home?  Kids in the Kitchen will feature a Kids Cooking Contest for children grades first through eighth grade.  Applications are due March 11 to participate.

Kids in the Kitchen will feature family-friendly activities, hands-on cooking demonstrations, local restaurant food sampling, specialists sharing healthy recipes and food education, fun exercise activities, face painting, inflatables, healthy snacks and a goody bag.    By providing fun, family-oriented solutions to healthy living, kids and youth are encouraged to be active participants in their own health and well-being.
