The Storehouse of Collin County’s Project Hope Program invites the community to a fun, FREE day fostering health and wellness at the 5th Annual Camp Fresh N’ Fit, Saturday, July 28, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., at The Storehouse, at 1401 Mira Vista Blvd., Plano. The event is sponsored by The Texas Legends and features special guest Anthony “Spud” Webb, 1986 NBA Slam Dunk Champion. Anyone interested in attending must RSVP by July 26 on www.thestorehousecc.org/FreshNFit.

The event includes basketball drills and stations for children 6-14 with Texas Legends training staff and mascot; health and wellness workshops for adults – yoga, food prep, stress and anxiety management, fitness training; raffle prizes; and music by DJ Smoove from 97.9 The Beat. In addition to Spud Webb, special guests include Dr. Kevin Atchley and Dr. Bobbie Wallin from Castle Hills Chiropractic; Dr. Dominique Hunt from Frisco Dental Place; Hope Wilson, fitness instructor; and Kellye Abernathy, yoga instructor. Yogurt smoothies will be provided in the morning by Lala US, and all registered attendees will be provided a complimentary lunch.

Kicking off the day’s activities at 9:30 a.m. will be a Q&A and autograph session with Spud Webb, an American retired professional basketball point guard, who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Webb is known for winning a Slam Dunk Contest despite being one of the shortest players in NBA history. NBA.com lists him at 5 feet 7 inches (170 cm) tall. He is currently the President of Basketball Operations for the Texas Legends, the G-League team for the Dallas Mavericks in Frisco. All kids will receive a basketball card featuring Spud.

“Spud is a personal friend, and we are so glad he is gracious enough to share his story of perseverance and resilience with our families,” said Deborah Hill, Project Hope.  “This is our fifth year running Camp Fresh N’ Fit and our families always enjoy learning from our collaborative partners. It’s also a treat to interact with positive role models in our community who inspire us to develop a healthy lifestyle.”

Following the session with Webb, Fitness Instructor Hope Wilson will present a warm-up session at 10:30 a.m. At 11 a.m. adults may enjoy yoga with Kellye Abernathy while youths participate in basketball drills with Texas Legend coaches. Following lunch individual breakout sessions will be provided for both adults and youths.  The closing ceremony and raffle drawing will take place at 2 p.m.

“The Storehouse believes that healthy living is the balance of the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of our lives,” said Candace Winslow, executive director, The Storehouse of Collin County.  “Camp Fresh & Fit allows us to explore personal wellness for both kids and adults by offering sessions that are not only educational, but also entertaining.  We are so excited to welcome the community to this fun day!”

Childcare will be provided for children ages 6 and under. Please email Deborah Hill at dhill@thestorehousecc.org to request childcare.
