Abby Kohut - author of “Absolutely Abby’s 101 Job Search Secrets”

Career Guru Abby Kohut to Speak:

"How to Win the Hearts and Minds of a Recruiter" January 8

“Networking for Leaders – Building Magical Relationships” - January 15

St. Andrew United Methodist Church’s CareerCare group welcomes back Career Guru Abby Kohut to speak on January 8 and 15, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., at Festival Hall, 1401 Mira Vista Blvd., Plano, Texas, 75093.  The events, free and open to the public, provide job search tips and networking opportunities.

On January 8, Kohut will present “How to Win the Hearts and Minds of a Recruiter.”  A seasoned recruiter, Kohut will discuss what happens behind the scenes and provide secret insights into the human resources and recruiting process.

“It's a tough job market out there, and you have to differentiate yourself from the rest of the applicant pool,” said Kohut.

On January 15, Kohut will present “Networking for Leaders-Building Magical Relationships.”  Kohut will talk about the important role job seekers have in the networking process.  Simply attending a networking event is not enough.  It is what the job seeker does during and after that event that matters.

“You create the success of any networking event,” added Kohut.  “Don’t rely on the event itself to create the success.  You get out of the event what you put in, and that philosophy will get you so much more out of the experience.”

Kohut is the author of “Absolutely Abby’s 101 Job Search Secrets.”In the past 18 years, she held positions including senior director of recruiting for Kaplan; interim director of recruiting for Continuum Health Partners; and manager of global recruiting for Alpharma. Her website, AbsolutelyAbby.com, which was selected as one of the “Top 100 Websites for Your Career” by Forbes in 2013, teaches candidates secrets the absolute truth about the job search process that other recruiters don’t share. Abby has provided job search tips on Fox 5, NBC, CBS, ABC, LinkedIn, Monster, Real Simple, The Ladders, Bloomberg Radio, and Forbes.  Kohut was selected as one of "The Monster 11 for 2011: Career Experts Who Can Help Your Job Search" and is one of the “Top 100 Influential People Online” according to Fast Company Magazine. Since 2010, she has been on a mission to help 1 million job seekers and is currently driving around the United States on a nationwide tour to accomplish that goal.  Visit www.AbbyAcrossAmerica.com

“We are delighted to welcome back Abby Kohut as she has wonderful advice for anyone seeking new employment,” added Bill Brewer, Ministry Director, CareerCare, St. Andrew UMC.  “Each time she has spoken we have heard wonderful feedback from the attendees.”

Events are free and no reservations are required.  Entrance will be on northeast side of the church directly off of Mira Vista.  Park in the north parking lot and enter the double doors facing the north lot.  For more information, visit the CareerCare Website at http://www.standrewumc.org/connect/ministries/learning/career-care/ or call 214-291-8011.
