This is Roxanne DeBerry of The DeBerry Team of Keller Williams Realty Plano. I have just received a notice from our office Regional Office that there has been an instance I wanted to make everyone aware of: Recently a real estate agent had their emailed hacked and a fraudalent email was sent to a buyer of a property with wiring instruction to transfer funds. The buyer thought it was legitimate and transfered the funds. The buyer lost a significant amount of money and was devastated! Please do not transfer any funds based on an email without having a conversation with the person who sent it to you. Sellers and Buyers of Real Estate please be extremely cautious following email instructions to transfer funds without verifying if it is a legitimate request. As I understand it from the notice the police are looking into this but have stated that it is extremely difficult to find these crimiinals and to get restitution of funds.
