On Oct. 20, 2020, St. Timothy Christian Academy (STCA) met virtually with Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education Frank Brogan, U.S. Congressman Van Taylor of Plano, and representatives from Senators Ted Cruz’s and John Cornyn’s offices to share about the school’s successful reopening plan after COVID-19.

St. Timothy parents, students, staff, Board President Lee Phegley, Prestonwood Christian Academy’s Executive Director/Interim Head of School John Klingstedt and STCA Head of School Lisa McNair discussed the school’s successful reopening plan including methods used to safely allow students back in the classroom this fall. The virtual roundtable was part of a series of virtual visits that Assistant Secretary Brogan is holding with school and community leaders around the country to understand the most successful strategies being used to reopen schools.

“What an honor for St. Timothy Christian Academy to have been selected by the U.S. Department of Education to be featured in a virtual showcase,” said STCA Head of School, Lisa McNair. “Each of our students is diagnosed with a learning difference. Online learning is challenging for many students, but because of their learning differences, students with special needs struggle. A mom told me, ‘Being isolated at home with no therapies or social interaction has been detrimental to my child. We have seen so much regression.’ At St. Timothy, we knew we had to step out in faith and provide what our students need. We are blessed to partner with Prestonwood Christian Academy and Prestonwood Baptist Church who have fully supported our efforts to provide this service for our students.” 

St. Timothy Christian Academy is a non-traditional school which supports families and educates students with learning differences in grades K through 12. STCA is one of five schools in the Prestonwood Christian Academy School System which has been recognized as having one of the strongest Christian education programs in the country.
