PCA Football Wins State PCA's Football team, coaches and trainers celebrate after winning the TAPPS Division 1 State Championship!

On Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, Prestonwood Christian Academy’s Varsity Football team played for the 2017 TAPPS Division 1 State Championship facing Houston St. Pius X at Midway Panther Stadium in a quest to bring home the school’s fifth football state title.

Down by 18 points late in the third quarter, Prestonwood refused to give up, and scored the final 19 points of the intense game. The Lions held off St. Pius X in the final seconds of the game and pulled off the victory 42-41.

“I am so proud of this team,” said Chris Cunningham, PCA’s Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. “This has been a special season, and we are giving all the glory to God.  Even after the team won the Championship trophy, I’ve heard them talk more about the relationships made and the lessons they’ve learned this season.”

Prestonwood’s football program previously won State titles in 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2015. Four of the school’s five football titles have been won under Coach Cunningham.

“We teach Kingdom athletics at PCA -- training the hearts and minds of student-athletes to value hard work, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship in the classroom of athletic development and competition,” said Cunningham. “Colossians 3:23 says, ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord!’”

Prestonwood Christian Academy serves more than 1,600 students enrolled at three campuses: Plano (Pre-Kindergarten 3 through 12th grade), PCA North in Prosper (Pre-Kindergarten 3 through 7th grade) and PCAplus Virtual Academy. PCA North is now enrolling through 8th grade. Prestonwood has been recognized as having one of the strongest Christian education programs in the country providing intentional biblical worldview training and integration. PCA places great value on the growth of students' spiritual health in addition to their scholastic endeavors and co-curricular activities. In addition to PCA's spiritual development plan, the school promotes a rigorous Liberal Arts academic program. The graduating class of 2017 was offered more than $10 million in scholarship for academics, arts and athletics from universities and other institutions of higher learning. PCA is currently accepting applications. Interested families are invited to take a campus tour or attend an upcoming School Preview to learn more!
