Take the First Step to Getting in Shape with LifePoint

Plano Church Offers Free 5K Training Program

Plano’s LifePoint Church can get you off on the right foot in 2014 with a free 8-week 5K training program that culminates with the church’s first annual OutRun Homelessness 5K and Fun Run.  The free training, open to everyone in the community, starts Saturday, January 18 and the OutRun Homelessness race is March 22. Both take place at LifePoint Plano at 4501 Hedgcoxe in Plano.

The free 8-week training takes place from 7:00 to 8:00 a.m. each Saturday from January 18 to March 9.  The 60-minute sessions are led by professional running coaches Drew and Michelle Driver, who will customize training for participants of all fitness levels, including walkers, first-time racers and regular runners.  The training will include breathing, technique, warm up exercises, workout and cool down exercises as well as lots of emotional and spiritual encouragement.   The free training program takes place in the church's north parking lot; childcare is available for a fee and online registration is required for both childcare and race training.

When race training ends March 9, participants will be ready for the church’s first annual OutRun Homelessness 5K and Fun Run on March 22.  All funds raised from the race will be donated to organizations in the Collin County community that serve the homeless population.  The race begins and ends in the church parking lot and, after the race, participants will have an opportunity to learn about local charitable organizations that serve the Collin County homeless population and how everyone can work together to address this issue.

“There is a misconception that homelessness is not an issue in communities like Plano,” said Senior Pastor George Feiser. “The goal of the first annual OutRun Homelessness event is to raise awareness of this issue in Collin County and to provide volunteer opportunities by connecting race participants with organizations that share the church's mission. This race will hopefully help address this issue with both funds raised and an increase in community participation.”
