House on the Corner

The Wildcat Chapter of Young Mens Service League (YMSL) is comprised of boys 9th-12th grades that typically attend feeder schools in the Plano Senior High School attendance zones. The Chapter maintains a membership of approximately 100 mothers and their sons. Last year, the Wildcat Chapter volunteered over 3000 hours in the community and donated over 725 "wish List" items to those in need in Plano and surrounding communities.

Wildcat moms & sons had a very busy summer volunteering for many worthwhile causes and needs.  Our boys and moms spent many hours with hammers, nails, paint and muscle helping build the "House on the Corner" at Christ United Methodist Church. They joined with others from Custer Road UMC to serve nutritious lunches to economically disadvantaged children and their parents from Carpenter Middle School, Christie Elementary and Thomas Elementary at Big Lake Park during the summer months. "Bingo" could be heard from Pioneer
Place Senior Home as the boys and moms ran bingo games, served the residents snacks and provided prizes for the Bingo winners! Lots of hours were logged in working at Minnie's Food Pantry. We assisted in stocking the shelves, making boxes of food for clients, greeting clients, helping them load their groceries in their cars and doing it all with a smile. Wildcat Chapter also paired with Resurrection Lutheran Church to assist them with their School Supply Project. We sorted, packed, inventoried and delivered school supplies to the Collin County Assistance center for needy children, Pre-K through 12th grades. Our boys and moms had fun assisting at HEROES Summer camp doing various activities such as swimming, going to movies, arts and crafts etc. with individuals with disabilities ages 3-35. We also helped maintain Jeremiah's Plot Community Garden during the hot summer months so we can harvest fresh produce for Minnie's Food pantry and others.

The boys are back in school now and busy with school activities but you can still find us all around the community assisting with lots of various community groups. This month our entire chapter with be helping HEROES with their fall carnival- we have created games and will be helping run the carnival.  We'll continue to host Bingo, help around the farm at Heritage Farmstead, serve at Minnie's Food Pantry, work with Boys & Girls club, This Side Up and many others! Look for us in our YMSL shirts and support our young men with a kind word if you see them out making a difference!
