The Plano East football team fought valiantly but fell just short in the end to perennial football powerhouse Southlake Carroll, 23-17. For much of the game, the Dragons completely outplayed Plano East, but the scrappy Panthers stuck with it and the game entered the fourth quarter in a 16-16 tie. However, the fourth quarter would belong to Southlake and the Dragons scored the only points in the quarter to seal their win.

The Plano East rushing attack was stifled all game by the Southlake defense. Running back Dante' Taylor, who had rushed for over 1,000 yards during the regular season, was held to just 22 yards on eight carries. With the running game limited, quarterback Corey Wesley was forced to air it out. He completed 10 passes for 141 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Wesley also ran for a score to put Plano East in the lead in the first quarter.

On the otherhand, the Plano East defense was never able to contain dual-threat quarterback Kenny Hill. The Dragons' quarterback completed 18 passes for 215 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He was also the leading rusher in the game with 33 carries for 176 yards and a touchdown.

Plano East had the unfortunate luck of meeting Southlake Carroll in the first round of the playoffs. However, the Panthers were able to rattle off four straight wins in order to make the playoffs, which is something the coaches and players should take pride in. Overall, Plano East finished the season with a 6-5 record.
