It took an unusual set of circumstance and a lot of help but Plano East grabbed the final playoff spot in District 8-5A on Friday, November 4. Plano East defeated Lewisville, 52-28; Plano West beat Plano, 24-10. Normally, the tiebreaker would have gone to Plano West, who had defeated Plano East earlier in the season.

However, Hebron also lost on Friday to Flower Mound Marcus, 42-28. That loss put Hebron, Plano East and Plano West in the three-way tie for third place. The tiebreakers were also rendered useless: Plano East had beaten Hebron, Hebron had beaten Plano West and Plano West had beaten Plano East. Due to another set of tiebreakers involving points, Hebron took third place and Planon East claimed the final spot, leaving Plano West as the odd team out.

For their troubles, Plano East will get to play undefeated Southlake Carroll on Saturday, November 12 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. The game is scheduled to kick off at 5:00 p.m.
