The Plano East Baseball Booster Club wants to recognize former Plano East Baseball players at the dedication of the Rusty Franklin Field at 12:30 p.m. April 18, prior to the 1 p.m. Varsity game against Plano Senior High at Plano East.

“We want to honor PESH Panther baseball alums and their families with a cookout starting at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18,”
said Greg Ligon, Plano East Baseball Booster Club president. “They’ll hardly recognize the baseball facilities with all the changes we’ve made over the past few years. Last year we installed a new electronic scoreboard. Before the start of this season we installed artificial turf in the infield, reconfigured the batting cages and installed new press box speakers. PESH baseball families are welcome even if their former player is unavailable to join us.”

Russell “Rusty” Franklin was an assistant principal and baseball coach at Plano East. He came to Plano in 1984 as an assistant coach in baseball and football. He took over as the Panthers’ head baseball coach in 1989, leading it for seven years with a playoff appearance in 1993. Franklin died in 2014.

Former Plano East Baseball players are asked to register at http://tinyurl.com/pesh15 even if they can’t attend.  For more information, email greg@ligongroup.com.

Rusty Franklin Field is located on the north side of the Plano East Senior High School campus at 3000 Los Rios Boulevard in Plano. Schedules, rosters and more information are online at http://www.planoeastbaseball.com and fans are encouraged to follow Plano East Panther Baseball on FaceBook.
