Prestonwood Christian Academy Cuts Ribbon and Opens 15,000 Square Foot Field House Expansion

The population of student athletes at Prestonwood Christian Academy (PCA) has more than doubled in the last decade. Phase I in the expansion and renovation of the current Field House was completed in December 2012, and was kicked off by an open house and ribbon cutting that was held on Friday, January 10.

About 200 people came to see the new addition between the girls and boys varsity basketball games. Phase I includes a new Performance Training Center, a large team meeting room, which overlooks the current competition floor, as well as concessions for Graham Field.

“We are so thankful for the many donors who made this expansion to our athletic facilities possible," stated Dr. Larry Taylor, PCA Head of School. "Athletics is an important part of the development process of young men and ladies, and we want to provide facilities that help them pursue excellence. We always dedicate our facilities to the Lord, like Friday night, because we know that true excellence is realized when our athletes play with Christ like character.”

The Field House expansion will be completed over three additional phases.

Phase II will include a two-story, 20,000 square foot extension on the east side and will include locker and team rooms for sub-varsity and varsity basketball and volleyball teams, as well as coaches offices and team meeting rooms. Phase III will include a complete redesign of the current first floor space. This will include locker rooms, team meeting rooms and coaches offices for the football and soccer programs. Lastly, Phase IV will be the addition of a varsity gym located to the east of the current Field House with U-shaped seating for more than 1,000 patrons.

On Friday night, Coach Mike Maack, PCA’s Head Baseball Coach, was able to take his baseball players into their new locker room for the first time. “Wow! Seeing the boy’s faces as they walked through the door to their very own locker room made the last 11 years of changing in the dugouts worth it," said Coach Maack. "They were giving each other high fives and hugging each other. It was awesome getting to see their excitement firsthand. I cannot wait to move forward toward a start date and completion of our other phases so we can build locker room facilities like this one for our other teams to enjoy as much as I know our baseball players will enjoy this space. The PCA Baseball clubhouse is first class, and we are so blessed to be able to call it home."

Senior baseball player Casey Maack, son of Coach Mike Maack, was able to see the locker room on Friday night with his teammates.

“When I first walked into the locker room, I loved everything about it," said Casey Maack. "Having a locker room for the baseball team is great, and I am glad I have been around to see how the program has developed.”

Prestonwood Christian Academy is very grateful for this expansion and is excited about the completion of the upcoming phases.
