Planoettes Ask, 'Are You Not Entertained?!?!'

Everyone who attended the Planoettes Spring Show April 11-13 replied with a resounding YES to that question. This year’s show, Holding out for a Hero, introduced the audience to heroes from all walks of life:  The Heroes of 9-11, Superman, Doctors, Secret Agents, Firemen and many others. The show opened with the team Jazz performance entitled “We are Heroes,” a nod to the hero in everyone.

Planoette Bootbackers President Katy Ericson summed the event up best saying, “Holding Out For A Hero was an overwhelming success! The team performed beautifully and the crowd was thoroughly entertained. It was the perfect exclamation point to an unforgettable year!”

The show offered many forms of dance, including modern, lyrical, hip hop, jazz, military, contemporary and high kick. Each year, the spring show consists of routines that were performed at competitions. These routines have to be adapted to be performed on a stage rather than in a large coliseum. Additionally, the Officers, Sergeants and Business Officers choreographed new routines for the show.

“This team has always pulled together to produce flawless performances and Spring Show was no exception. The 2012-2013 Planoette team came on stage and performed their hearts out for a wonderful evening for everyone. I received many compliments from alumni, staff, and friends how great the show was. They commented on the variety, talented dancers, the humor from the emcees and our awesome Maroon Guard, and one even said it was the best Planoette show they’ve seen!” said Meredith Walraven, Planoette Director.

One of the most elaborate routines was “War Hero”, which was entered into the Show Production category at two competitions this spring. The Planoettes brought the audience on a journey to ancient Rome, featuring gladiators, intrigue and battles. This performance was a tribute to the soldiers of our armed forces. The Planoettes and audience acknowledged all active duty and veteran service personnel in the audience afterwards.

This year, the Planoettes welcomed the officers from Clark and Vines High Schools as special guest performers on consecutive nights. The final evening featured a Spice Girls contemporary piece performed by the Fearless Five, the Planoettes Senior Officers. After three outstanding nights, the curtain came down after “The Last Dance” on a successful and tremendous group of hard working young ladies.

Walraven added, “I cannot thank the team, the incredible Planoette parents, our tech crew, Cameron Hefty, our light designer, and the emcees for pulling together a great evening for everyone to enjoy! Here’s to another great show at Plano Sr. High!”

The Planoettes Drill Team is made up of 75 junior and senior girls and the awesome Maroon Guard. Director Meredith Walraven and Assistant Directors Lindsay Placke and Jennifer Janak lead the team.
