Prestonwood Christian's Mike Mitchell Selected as Finalist for U.S. Army Player of the Year

Prestonwood Christian Academy’s Mike Mitchell was named as one of 16 finalists for The U.S. Army Player of the Year. The recipient will be announced on January 4, 2013, at a formal dinner, which takes place on the eve of the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Also known as the Hall Trophy, this award has been given annually since 2000 to the most outstanding high school football player in the United States. It is comparable to the Heisman Trophy given at the collegiate level.

Mike is the only Texan to make the final 16. He is currently ranked as the number 32 recruit in the nation by Rivals.

“It is a big honor to be in the running against the best players not just in the state, but the nation," said Mitchell. "I have worked really hard this year, and I am thankful to have such good teammates to play with who make me a better player."

Head Football Coach Chris Cunningham says, “I am extremely proud that Mike is one of only 16 players across the nation considered for this honor. To be the only player named from the best high school football state in the country is an honor itself. What I am most proud of is that Mike has lived up to this honor and has had a tremendous year.”

The Lions are now headed into the playoffs. Mitchell led Prestonwood to a regular season record of 7-3 in TAPPS Division I.
