At 11:40 a.m. today, the Murphy Police Department reported shots fired in the 500 block of Windward Dr. near Tibballs Elementary, according to DFW Scanner. MPD and the Wylie Police Department searched the area for a suspect. 

Arron Moeller, Principal at Hunt Elementary School in PISD, sent out a message to all parents regarding this occurrence and can be read below.

 

Dear Parents,

Today at about 12:15 p.m., Plano ISD schools located in Murphy, TX, observed a brief lockout while the Murphy Police Department pursued a suspect in the area. An off-duty police officer witnessed shots fired in the 500 block of Windward Drive in Murphy.

Plano ISD initiated a lockout at McMillen High School, Murphy Middle School and Boggess and Hunt Elementary Schools. Our students' instructional day was not interrupted and the lockout was released by 12:56 p.m. by the Murphy Police Department.

The safety of our students and staff is always our main priority. We appreciate the partnership we share with the Murphy Police Department and their attention to our schools during today's occurrence. Thank you for your ongoing support of our efforts to maintain a safe and secure learning environment.
