Prestonwood Christian Academy's Julius Randle Chooses the University of Kentucky

Prestonwood Christian Academy’s (PCA) Julius Randle announced his decision on Wednesday, March 20, to play his college basketball at the University of Kentucky for Coach John Calipari as a Wildcat.

After much anticipation and speculation, Randle made his decision during a school rally telecast live on ESPNU. After Randle’s announcement, the event included a net cutting ceremony for the PCA Boys Varsity Basketball 2012-13 TAPPS 5A State Champions.

In opening remarks, PCA Head of School Dr. Larry Taylor spoke about Julius, in which he referenced the Bible verse Proverbs 22:1, “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” He went on to speak of Julius’ reputation that he has made in the basketball world, not just due to his talent, but more importantly, his character.

Before announcing his decision, Randle thanked God, his mother, godparents, family, friends and PCA. Shortly after, he donned the University of Kentucky cap, which he chose over Florida, Kansas and Texas.

“I loved all the schools and all the coaches, but the final straw came down to the system," stated Randle. "I know a lot of good players are going there and I will have to battle. In my heart, I knew I wanted to be at Kentucky."

Randle then joined his teammates atop one of three ladders to “cut the net” in recognition of the team’s historic back-to-back state championship wins.

“I am very happy for Julius in choosing to attend The University of Kentucky," stated PCA Head Basketball Coach Chris Mayberry. "He is a great young man and I look forward to how the Lord is going to use the talents and gifts he has for His glory."
