It was an exciting weekend for Prince of Peace Christian School (POPCS) students and supporters. The school won two state championships in one day on Saturday, November 9. The Eagles Volleyball team earned its TAPPS Volleyball State Championship at the tournament in West, Texas, and the POPCS Theatre Company secured its best-in-state title at the TAPPS One-Act Play Competition in Kerrville, Texas.

“To win two state championships in one day was amazing,” said POPCS Headmaster Chris Hahn.  “We had fans in West and Kerrville to cheer on the students and coaches. Texts and updates were flying back and forth as each team progressed.  To see these students and their God-given talents on the court and stage was truly a blessing to our school.  I assure you Saturday, November 9, 2019, is a day that Prince of Peace Christian will never forget!”

The Eagles Volleyball team captured the TAPPS 5A Volleyball Championship state title in West, Texas, with a (3-0) sweep of The Brook Hill School in the final four match, and a (3-0) sweep of San Antonio Christian School in the state championship match.  The Eagles Volleyball Team is led by Head Coach Heidi Henke, who started and has led the program since 2001, and Assistant Coaches Michelle Kemrite, who joined the staff this season, and Michelle Dwyer, who has been an assistant coach since 2012. The Lady Eagles finished their season with an overall record of (38-4), the best season in the program’s history.  This win is the 3rd TAPPS Volleyball State Championship for Prince of Peace Christian.

Individual POPCS athletes selected to the TAPPS Volleyball All-Tournament Team at the state competition were POPCS Senior Evy Eckensberger from Plano (Hitter); POPCS Senior Raella Papes (Hitter); POPCS Senior Bella Loretto from Plano (Hitter); and POPCS Senior Morgan Daley (Libero).

“I am so proud of these outstanding athletes and their collaborative dedication to play hard at each game and to bring home the state championship,” said POPCS Volleyball Head Coach Henke.  Their tenacity and drive were evident throughout the season!”

The POPCS Theatre Company earned its state championship at the TAPPS Division 1 One-Act Play Competition in Kerrville, Texas, by beating out seven schools throughout the state that had advanced from district competitions to the state competition.  The POPCS Theatre Company is directed by POPCS Director of Theatre and Fine Arts Chair Rachel DuPree.  This is the fifth time that the POPCS theatre students have been in the state competition, and this marks their first state win.

Individual POPCS cast and crew members selected for awards at the TAPPS State One-Act Play Competition were POPCS Junior Jack DuPree from Plano (Best Actor); POPCS Junior Miller Barnes (All-Star Cast); POPCS Senior Tyler Dorney  from Plano (All-Star Cast); POPCS Senior Vicki Romanczyk (All-Star Crew); POPCS Senior Antonio Velasquez (All-Star Crew) and POPCS Sophomore Emery Gray (Honorable Mention All-Star Cast).
