1989 Porsche 930 Turbo Targa

More than 100 cars have been selected to be displayed and juried in the Collectors Concours at the 3rd annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase. Plano resident Barry Fromberg has the unique distinction of having three rare cars from his collection selected for the show: a 1989 Porsche 930 Turbo Targa; a 1991 Jaguar XJR-15; and a 1993 Jaguar XJ220.

“I fell in love with the Jaguar XJ220 as soon as it was launched in the early 1990s,” said Fromberg. “At the time of its launch it was the fastest car in the world, reaching a top speed of 217.1 mph. It’s powered by a 3.5L V-6 twin turbocharged engine, producing 542 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. Several years ago I decided to start a collection of my favorite cars, and the XJ220 was at the top of my list.  I found the perfect car in August 2017: a one-owner car in outstanding condition in my favorite color, Monza Red, with 3,400 km on the odometer.”

“The Jaguar XJR-15 is the first road-going car built entirely of carbon fiber,” explained Fromberg. “It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 6.0L V-12 engine, producing 450 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.  Based on the Le Mans winning Jaguar XJR-9 race car, the car’s designer went on to design the McLaren F1, using many of the design cues he created for the XJR-15. There were only 26 XJR-15 road cars produced, and it is believed that there are only eight located in the U.S. The car that I recently purchased became available from a long term collector, and is in outstanding condition with 639 miles on the odometer.”

“I’m also a big Porsche fan, having owned and raced several Porsches over the years,” concludes Fromberg.  “The 930 Turbo was the first production turbocharged car produced by Porsche.  Realizing that Porsche only made 35 Turbos with a Targa roof for the U.S. market in 1989, I decided the 1989 Porsche Turbo Targa was the car for me.  It took me several years to find one, but I was referred to an L.A. dealer who had a two-owner car in outstanding condition with only 24,800 miles on the odometer.”
