In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Collin County Alumnae Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha teamed with Plano Senior High Planoettes drill team to Pink Out Plano’s Clark Stadium for the McKinney vs. Plano game on October 12.  ZTA members, with the help of Planoettes, distributed 5,000 Think Pink® ribbons to home and visiting fans who attended the game.  Both the Plano Wildcat mascot and the McKinney mascot wore giant ZTA Think Pink® ribbons, and ZTA Think Pink® banners were hung around the stadium. It was very inspiring to look into the stands and see them filled with pink shirts sold by Planoettes to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and pink paw paddles provided by the football booster club.

Plano’s Pink Out game is one of more than 400 events where ZTA Collegiate and Alumnae chapters will be seen promoting breast cancer awareness and early detection during the month of October.  “Our chapter chose this particular game for our annual Think Pink® event since Plano fans have historically been very supportive of this cause,” stated Diane Goebel, Philanthropy Vice President for Collin County ZTA Alumnae.  “We are thrilled about working with the Planoettes, whose director Meredith Walraven, first introduced the Pink Out concept to PSHS.”  Both Walraven and Planoette assistant director, Jennifer Janak are ZTA members.

Zeta Tau Alpha, a women’s fraternity, was founded in 1898 at the State Female Normal School (now Longwood University) in Farmville, Va., and has more than 211,000 members worldwide.  Breast cancer education and awareness is ZTA’s national philanthropy, and the organization partners with Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, Yoplait®, the National Football League and SELF magazine to promote awareness.  Think Pink® is a registered trademark of Zeta Tau Alpha, and members have distributed 10 million pink ribbons since 1992.  For more information, visit collincounty.zetataualpha.org and zetataualpha.org.
