A recent report by Environmental Working Group has implied City of Plano drinking water has elevated levels of trihalomethanes.

The City of Plano cannot confirm that organization’s testing source or results. In accordance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements, the City’s water supply is tested quarterly for trihalomethanes.

The city generates an Annual Drinking Water Quality Report which is mailed each year to our water customers. In the 2011 report, which is the most recent and available on the City of Plano website at www.plano.gov, the average level of trihalomethanes was 36.5 parts per billion (ppb) with a maximum of 44. The EPA maximum is 80 ppb.

The City of Plano levels are well below that maximum level set by the EPA.

Public Works Director Gerald Cosgrove said, “We want to reassure our residents that the City of Plano water
supply is well within the safe drinking water standards.”
