The CHANT Chargers, a homeschool athletic association, will be holding their All Sports Kickoff meeting on August 10 at First United Methodist Church in Allen from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Chargers have been in existence for five years now and by the time of this meeting, the 6-man football practices will already be underway for middle school and high school. At the end of the meeting, players will get to spend some time in the North Texas Xtreme Gaming video game truck.

To play for CHANT, it's pretty simple. You must be homeschooled! Most of the players come from Plano, Allen, Frisco, McKinney, Garland, Melissa, Anna, Celina and Prosper, but they also draw players from Princeton and Farmersville and other outlying cities.

In addition to 6-man football, CHANT offers girls softball and basketball for boys and girls from ages 8-18. They are also checking into the interest level of starting a boys baseball program.

Last season the Charger softball team went to the NACA tournament in Dayton, Tennessee and came back with the sportsmanship award in addition to winning the tournament! Softball tryouts for the upcoming season will be in January.

Basketball is the largest sport in the organization by sheer numbers. Last season there were boys teams at all age levels, 10U, 12U, 14U,16U and 18U. On the girls side, they had teams at the 12U and 14U levels. They are hoping to add a girls high school team this coming season. CHANT is always looking for new players at all levels for both boys and girls. There will be plenty of playing time for players that would like to join. Practice will start sometime in September. If you are a high school girl and you are looking for an opportunity to play, not watch, you need to come out and see what CHANT is all about.

Last season, the basketball teams had some new opportunities by playing in several public school tournaments and having the opportunity to schedule more games against public schools. The boys varsity and JV also hosted a game against a visiting team from Australia. The basketball season ends with the State Homeschool tournament in Frisco near the end of February and the National Homeschool tournament in Springfield, Mo. in March.

If you are homeschooled and want to play competitive sports, come out to the meeting! The address for First United Methodist Church is 601 S Greenville, Allen, TX 75002.
