Plano Fire-Rescue will graduate 16 new firefighter recruits from their Training Academy this Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in a ceremony at Plano’s Courtyard Theater located at 1509 H Avenue.

During the five-week Basic Training Academy, the recruits underwent fire and medical training in such areas as fire behavior, strategic fire operations, firefighter safety, hazardous materials, and search and rescue to prepare them for serving the citizens of Plano. All are certified in Firefighter I through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) through the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Upon graduation, the recruits will be assigned to one of the city’s 13 fire stations and those with special designations as Training Station where they will undergo an additional three-month mentorship process to evaluate their performance in the field.

The graduation ceremony is open to the media and public. Fire Chief Brian Crawford will administer the Oath of Office to the new firefighters.
