If you’re looking to hit the green for a good cause this spring, register for the 6th Annual Redhawk Open Golf Tournament, benefiting the Frisco Liberty High School Football and Baseball Booster Clubs. Every year, proceeds from the Redhawk Open are put into scholarship funds for senior student athletes participating in football and baseball.
This year’s tournament will be played on Sunday, April 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club in Plano.
While the golf tournament is a fun opportunity to get in a weekend round of golf, according to Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach Galen Zimmerman and Head Baseball Coach Scott McGarrh, the Redhawk Open is also an important event that provides senior athletes with scholarship money for college.
Funds raised through the tournament are split equally between the football and baseball programs.
On the baseball side, Coach McGarrh said that every year, the booster club provides each senior with a $500 scholarship. This year, the team has eight seniors to be awarded. Also, two additional $500 scholarships are to be given; the first being a Coaches’ Scholarship, and the second being a scholarship given based on essays written by players and voted on by coaches.
For football’s portion of the proceeds, Coach Zimmerman said that money available after scholarships goes back into booster club funds and is used for things such as signage, spirit wear, and other “little things that add to the program.”
He commended the parents of the program and booster clubs, describing the amount of support the clubs provide to teams, players and coaches.
Coach Zimmerman said that the event is a fundraiser, but there’s plenty of opportunity to have fun at the tournament. “It’s as much of a good time as it is a money maker,” he said.
If you want to be a part of the 6th Annual Redhawk Open Golf Tournament’s four-man scramble, registration fees for individual golfers are $90, and the fee for a foursome is $350.
Included in the registration fee is:
- Green fee
- Cart
- Range balls
- Two free rounds of golf; one at Riverchase Golf Club and one at Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club
- $20 gift card, 45 minutes of indoor practice time, and a 10% discount card to the PGA Superstore
In addition, the following awards and prizes will be offered:
- Awards for top two and last two teams in the four-man scramble
- Closest to the Pin Award
- Longest Drive Award
- Hole-In-One Contest
- Raffle
- Silent Auction
- Mulligans
- Sports Memorabilia
Two sponsorship opportunities are available for the Redhawk Open; Hole Sponsorship is $300, and the Hole Sponsorship and Team Fee is $500.
