Every Swimming Pool Needs a Pool Watcher

Swimming and lounging out at a pool is a staple of the summer season. However, every year, thousands of drowning-related deaths occur each year and children are particularly susceptible. In fact, drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional, injury-related death for children between the ages of 1-14.

To help prevent this tragedy and to keep families safe, the city of Plano recommends that all families keep a Pool Watcher on duty at all times when children are in the pool. To further help, the Plano Fire Department will mail a Pool Watcher tag to any family that asks. While the Pool Watcher tag is worn, that adult is not to leave the poolside until another adult takes the tag and accepts the duty of Pool Watcher.

To learn more or to order a Pool Watcher tag, call the Fire Department Community Outreach Program at 972-941-7421.
