There are plenty of events and activities going on all across the metroplex on Independence Day next Wednesday. However, for the residents of Plano, they won't even have to leave the city to get their fill of Fourth of July fun.

The Plano Community Band will get things started on Tuesday, July 3 with a patriotic concert featuring singers from Custer Road United Methodist Church. The concert will be held at Haggard Park as part of a series of free concerts held throughout July.

Early on Wednesday morning, the Plano Early Lions Club will be hosting their annual Plano Independence Day Parade. There will be floats, bands, costumed characters and antique cars, as well as Scouts marching in formation, decorated bicycles and children being pulled in wagons by proud parents.

There will be another concert - the City of Plano's All-American Fourth - held at at Oak Point Park. The patriotic concert is presented by FirstChurch Music Ministry and will be followed by a rousing fireworks show simulcast on 97.5 KLAK. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic, games and plenty of friends and family.

And finally, if it's just too hot to be standing out in the sun, take a dip at the Texas Pool. The saltwater pool is uniquely shaped like the state of Texas and features slides, a diving board, picnic tables, concession stands and much more. The pool is open to the public for the holiday only.
