Did you know that singing can make you feel better as well as adding years to your life?  One of the main goals of Prestonwood Platinum Singers is to have fun and enjoy the fellowship of being in a group that praises the Lord through music.  The goal of Platinum Singers is to provide members with a comprehensive choral ministry, to sing for joy and fellowship, enhance lives, encourage personal growth in  Christ, and to challenge members to, "serve the Lord with all their heart, mind, soul, and strength" (Deuteronomy 6:5)

The Platinum Singers are open to anyone 55 years of age and "better" regardless of your religious or ethnic background.  Current members range in age from 50 to 90 years of age! There are no auditions and you don't have to read music in order to join.  The key scripture of the group is Psalm 95:1-"Come, O let us sing unto the Lord: Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation."

The group rehearses every Thursday (except May 18th when there is a field trip) from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in Room W207 of Prestonwood Baptist Church, which is located at 6801 West Park Blvd in Plano.  Prestonwood is one of the nation's largest churches with over 40,000 members and has a lot of language groups such as Spanish and Farsi (Persian).  The church broadcasts its services each week directly into Russia and Iran as well as London, England.

You may ask, "What do you do at these weekly rehearsals?"  The group engages in light stretching and fun warm-up exercises, learns good vocal technique, and practice several "fun" songs as well as a few choral compositions each week.  The exercises are designed to increase stamina, improve posture, balance, and breathing, especially since senior adults loose muscle tone as well as vocal range as they advance in years.  While musical excellence is always the goal of the group, they feel that the most important thing is to minister together in Christ and foster friendships and laughter.  They even have their own "members only" Facebook page!  Singing opportunities for the group include ministering at senior adult communities, participating in senior adult choir festivals, and singing for special events.
