Plano East baseball team treats firefighters

Approximately 50 young men in the Plano East Senior High School Baseball Program met at a Murphy home on October 20 for a team dinner. After the dinner, they delivered treats and snacks to the Murphy Fire Station and Plano Fire Department #11, just down the road from Plano East.

“These guys amaze me with their willingness to serve others,” said Plano East Head Baseball Coach Jordan Byrd. “We’ve put them in several situations to give back to the community and they really step up. For the past several weeks, they’ve woken up early and opened car doors in the drop off line at local elementary schools. Then, they go inside and read to kindergarten and first grade students. Our baseball program is about building leaders and men of character. They’re bonding together and becoming better teammates in the process.”

The firefighters at both stations welcomed the players with tours of the station and showed off their firefighting equipment.

The Plano East Baseball program is under the direction of Head Coach Jordan Byrd, Assistant Varsity Coach Scott Cattleman, Junior Varsity Head Coach Michael Martinez, Assistant Junior Varsity Coach John Lubow, McMillen Head Coach Cole McLean, McMillen Assistant Coach DeMarcus Mathes, Williams Head Coach Shane Kevlar and Williams Assistant Coach Efe Osawemwenze.  For more information, go to planoeastbaseball.com
