The City of Plano is among a select group of regional presenters to receive a Mid-America Arts Alliance (M-AAA) Regional Touring Program grant. This award will support upcoming performances by Michael Fitzsimmons, a percussionist at Learn 2 Live Green at the Shops at Legacy on April 12. Michael’s performances at 11:15 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. will include audience participation drum circles. Michael will also perform a free concert and participatory drum circle at Plano’s Davis Library, 7501-B Independence Parkway, at 4:30 p.m. on April 11.

Funding for the City of Plano’s M-AAA’s grant is drawn from generous underwriting by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, and foundations, corporations, and individuals throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.

M-AAA, the nation’s oldest regional arts organization, was founded in 1972 to foster cultural growth in heartland communities, Today M-AAA primarily serves communities throughout Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas. It develops and delivers arts and humanities programs for a national audience. The M-AAA program attracts more than one million people annually in more than 300 communities.

Audiences in Plano will have the opportunity to see the exciting work of Michael Fitzsimmons, many for the first time. Michael Fitzsimmons, Drums of the World & Drum Circle performance, will take place on the Main Outdoor Entertainment Stage at Learn 2 Live Green. A percussionist, award winning composer and recording artist, Michael’s concerts showcase an exciting variety of drums and flutes from around the world. His drum circle involves audience members who improvise, learn rhythms and have fun while beating on drums to make music.
