Seton Soles 5K/1-Mile Run Event Incorporates Jewish and Christian Joint Effort

SETON SOLES 7th Annual 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for April 5 this year, but the bigger story is the legacy created by a Jewish – Christian interfaith joint effort and a Catholic Priest who cared about the disadvantaged.

Monsignor Henry V. Petter pioneered the creation of the first Office of Peace and Social Justice in the Diocese of Dallas, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in 1999. That office has provided life-sustaining support for thousands of Collin County families in need.

The first Seton Soles Race, held in 2007, was the beginning of funding for the Henry V. Petter Endowment Fund which was created to provide grants to organizations that help North Texas people in need so that they can lead productive self-sufficient lives. Several Plano faith communities including Adat Chaverim and West Plano Presbyterian, and now Saint Ann Catholic Parish in Coppell joined St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in this social justice effort.

After saving and investing net race proceeds and donations from a generous Plano community for 5 years, the Endowment made its first grant of $10,000 to Isabel's Outreach, then last year another $10,000 to SkillQuest.  Going forward the Endowment expects to make similar and perhaps larger or more frequent grants to other organizations in North Texas.

Here is the Seton Soles website if you would like to register, make a donation, or just want more information. This is a fun, family friendly event.
