Plano Welcomes John Teel As Director of Environmental Health

On March 31, John H. Teel, M.S., R.S. will join the City of Plano as the director of environmental health. He will oversee the Plano Animal Shelter, Sustainabilty and Environmental Education Division and Environmental Health initatives.

Teel stated, “Plano’s environmental health department is recognized nationally for its innovative approach to public health. It is an honor to be selected to join the city leaders in expanding those efforts to build a safer and healthier city of excellence.”

He currently serves Grayson County as the director of health. Prior to that Teel was the director of municipal health for Garland. He brings more than 25 years of experience in public health. As a graduate of Texas A&M-Commerce, Teel has a bachelor of science in zoology and earth science, and a master of science in biology and chemistry.

“The magnitude of John’s public health experience and his ability to build community partnerships will strengthen our efforts to develop progressive new programs and services through our Environmental Health Department,” Deputy City Manager of Development Services Frank Turner said.

Teel fills the position vacated in January when long-time director Brian Collins retired.
