Rev. Dr. David Wilkinson of Durham, England, to speak on the relationship between science and religion at St. Andrew UMC
A British minister, theologian, astrophysicist, academic, Wilkinson is the author of numerous books and a regular contributor on BBC Radio
WHAT: Rev. Dr. David Wilkinson, a British minister, theologian, astrophysicist and academic, will speak about the relationship between science and religion at both St. Andrew UMC Contemporary Services. Wilkinson trained first as a scientist and then as a theologian and now specializes in the relationship between Christian theology and contemporary culture. His doctorate in astrophysics examined the process of star and galaxy formation. He studied theology at Cambridge University and became a Methodist minister in Liverpool, England. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Theology and Religion, St. John’s College, Durham University, in Durham, England. Among his teaching assignments is coursework in science and theology.
Wilkinson is the author of numerous books on the relationship between science and religion, including Reading Genesis after Darwin; God, Time, and Stephen Hawking; and The Power of Force: The Spirituality of the Star Wars Films. He also is a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a regular contributor to “Thought for the Day” on BBC Radio.
