Dallas musician Kirk Thurmond and The Millennials are releasing their new single, “Hangman”, capping off a day of music, fun and food at Legacy West’s Box Garden Grand Opening Weekend. Thurmond, a fixture in the Dallas music scene for the past 10 years, will close out a free, day-long event featuring Texas-born musicians with a performance at 9 p.m., May 19th, at the Box Garden, 7800 Windrose Ave., Plano, Texas.
Thurmond says the release will kick off a series of releases for the rest of the year, including an EP and a full album. He is encouraging everyone to download his app, “Kirk Thurmond”, on iTunes, Google Playto have early access his new single. App users can expect behind the scenes interviews, upcoming dates, all sorts of sneak previews to special performances, and many more fun surprises.
“Hangman”, which features Thurmond on vocals and guitar, blends a in touches of Earth, Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson, and Steely Dan. “What I’m trying to do is create fantastic musical moments in time,” Thurmond says. “With every song, I really want to create a musical sound that sounds great now, tomorrow and five, 10, 15 years from now.”
Kirk Thurmond & Millennials– a.k.a. KTAM team, includes Gino Iglehart, on drums, best known for his work with Erykah Badu, Kirk Franklin, Musiq Soulchild; Mike Clowes – electric guitar; Cris Brenham – keys; Jay Sandford – bass. Thurmond starting playing percussion at Cedar Hill High School, just outside of Dallas. He later taught himself how to play guitar. He finds inspiration for his songs throughout the course of the day.
