Students at Faith Lutheran School haven't been on the school's Plano campus since before Spring Break in mid-March.  But students are enjoying ample opportunities for a variety of enriching learning experiences and fun face-to-face visits with teachers and classmates thanks to some dedicated, innovative teachers and the school's new "Learn From Home" program.

Like schools across the country, Faith Lutheran School's Plano campus is temporarily closed due to COVID-19.  Teachers at the classical, Lutheran school immediately begin planning for alternative learning after learning that students would experience time away from the classroom as a result. Administrators, teachers and staff quickly created the school's new "Learn From Home" program to serve the school's students at all levels - preschool through grade 12. The Learn From Home program combines recorded videos, personalized class work packets, emailed assignments and interactive, live video classes to provide a unique education experience for the school's students.

In addition to traditionally-assigned class work with textbooks, worksheets, research papers and tests, teachers are hosting group and individual video calls with students to stay in touch. Science labs now occur online instead of in the lab, but are supplemented by live videos and online supplemental material. Band and orchestra group classes and individual instrumental music lessons are continuing via live video call. Weekly school chapel services are live-streamed, so that students can worship together through the power of technology.

"Through the combined efforts of faculty, staff and our beloved school families, the Lord has brought about a plan in the midst of trouble that our children might continue in a classical Lutheran education," said Faith Lutheran School Headmaster Rev. Stephen W. Kieser.  "The first week of Learn From Home is under our belt. We’ve learned a lot about ourselves.  Even more, we’ve witnessed that the Lord provides.  He has been our Refuge and Strength. The Lord has saved us.  He has taken care of us.  We have been preserved in Christian faith and made stronger because of our trials."

Faith Lutheran School has provided interactive, live, online classes at the high school level since 2013. The school’s extensive experience with interactive, online classes helped administrators and staff to quickly create the school's new Learn From Home program to serve students during this unprecedented time. Faith Lutheran School of Plano will continue the Learn From Home program as long as is necessary due to COVID-19 temporary school closures.
