In today’s world, technology allows people to remain connected to others via cell phone, computer or other means from virtually any point in the world. And very soon, that technology will come in handy for high school student Violette Hoff.

Violette’s father, Rev. Clinton Hoff, serves The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a career missionary. Hoff’s family will soon be moving to the Czech Republic where Rev. Hoff will serve as the pastor at St. Michael Lutheran Church in Prague.

Violette is one of seven children and is currently home-schooled, and to supplement her home school education, she takes online classes through Faith Lutheran School of Plano’s online high school class program.  Violette is currently taking a class called Omnibus through the online program. The class combines history, English, literature and Christian theology into one cohesive program.

“Even though we are moving across the globe and have challenges like the time difference and other issues, we have found a way to make this work…for Violette to utilize this course offering even when we are far from home,” said Rev. Hoff.  “The education provided through Faith Lutheran is excellent and of the highest quality. As a former educator I am very thankful to be a part of this program.”

Faith Lutheran School of Plano offers a variety of live, online high school classes using two-way HD-video streaming through the Internet.  This allows home-schooled students or others across the globe to participate in some of the school’s classes in real time.

“The student sees the teacher on his or her home computer or laptop, sees the notes the teacher puts on the e-board, listens to the lecture, and participates in live discussions with other students.  Most importantly the teacher will be able to see the student as well.  This is vital to verifying understanding, as body posture and facial expressions are half of all human communication,” explained Faith Lutheran School high school teacher Tim Merritt of Plano.

Rev. Hoff will also work with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Augsburg Confession in the Czech Republic to help plant new congregations in the Czech Republic. Together, Rev. Hoff and his wife Lalita will host international families who are visiting Prague and share the love of Christ with them during their stay.

Rev. Hoff was born in Bassano, Alberta, Canada. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alberta; his Master of Divinity from the Talbot School of Theology, La Mirada, Calif.; and a Master of Sacred Theology (STM) degree from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. Before serving as a missionary, Clinton served as a campus pastor (2005-2008), as a vacancy pastor (2008-2010), and as a dual-parish pastor at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Almena, Wis., and Silver Creek Lutheran Church, Clayton, Wis.
