Plano Conservancy hosts "Tombstone Mysteries" education and community service event

On Saturday, May 9, more than 150 community members gathered with staff and volunteers from the Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation for "Tombstone Mysteries," a cemetery education event designed to tie in with National Historic Preservation Month, which is observed each year in May.

"This unique event provided us with an excellent opportunity to celebrate the City of Plano and its heritage," said Plano Conservancy for Historic Preservation, Inc. Co-Director Jeffrey Campbell.

"Tombstone Mysteries" took place at Plano's Old City Cemetery and L.A. Davis Cemetery in Plano. Participants planted flowers, cleaned gravestones, placed flowers on soldier’s tombstones, helped catalog details of tombstones in each cemetery and heard about the lives of cemetery residents.

"We were able to educate guests about cemetery restoration projects and the historic preservation efforts underway in the city, and also gives us the chance to make them aware of the rich history and culture that this area has to offer," said Campbell.
