Local Family of Five Receives Dream Home 

On Monday, April 7, the Tuffa family of Plano, Texas received the gift of a home from Capital One and Habitat for Humanity of South Collin County (SCC). Nearly 300 Capital One associates joined forces with the national nonprofit to volunteer thousands of hours to build the home that was presented to the family of five.

The family’s youngest son, Caleb, suffers from a health condition called Prader Willi that affects most of his body and requires constant care by his parents and nurses. The Tuffa’s previous two-bedroom apartment was not big enough to hold the number of caretakers necessary to provide for Caleb and made it difficult to complete daily tasks. Now, in the new four-bedroom house, there is room to spare.

“Capital One associates care deeply about this community,” said Capital One North Texas/Collin County and Oklahoma Market President David Haufler. “They want to see their community thrive, and they want to be an integral part of its success year-round. And so when they have the opportunity to support the many Capital One programs and initiatives that advance education, financial literacy, affordable housing, and small business and workforce development in Collin County, they seize it.”

Through an approach called Investing for Good, Capital One coordinates business resources with a variety of community development and support for local programs and nonprofit organizations.

Capital One is committed to supporting organizations such as Habitat for Humanity that create a positive impact on local communities and the people and businesses in them. Through its “Home Loans Has Heart” program, launched in September 2013, Capital One made a $70,000 commitment to Habitat for Humanity-SCC. Along with the investment of the home build, Capital One has provided quarterly workshops on homebuyer literacy and various other financial literacy topics.
